Hello, there! My name is Leah Wessels. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about assisting others in achieving their mental health and wellness goals. I use a cognitive-behavioral approach to help you build an effective coping toolbox. I have a rich clinical background, with professional experience in different outpatient settings including in primary care, community mental health and in private practice.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will complete a comprehensive and holistic intake assessment. I will be gathering information about your current stressors and your psychiatric history. I try to create a warm and welcoming environment and preface that you do not have to answer any questions you aren't comfortable with. I understand that the first meeting can be nerve-wracking, but building trust is my number one priority.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is that I am an optimist. Using a positive psychology and strengths-based approach, I will assist you in seeing your own strengths, goals, and ultimately, the light at the end of the tunnel. I tend to incorporate a playful spirit and often use humor to build trust and rapport in the therapeutic relationship.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use principles of CBT in my work with anger, anxiety and mood management. Together, we will look at the ways your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors connect and how they relate to your mental health symptoms.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is used to help you create and build on healthy habits and behaviors. I use this approach to gauge motivation for change in your life. Motivational interviewing guides us in the steps we need to take to graduate to higher levels of achievement.

Strength-Based

During our initial meeting, we will discuss your personal strengths. During the treatment planning process, we will use these strengths to build meaningful and realistic goals in therapy. Throughout the treatment process, I look to celebrate your wins with you, no matter how big or how small.
