What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

When we first meet, I'll start by telling you a bit about myself and what I do. I specialize in a type of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT for short. The main idea behind ACT is to help you become more flexible navigating life’s challenges. Before we start our journey together, I'll make sure you have all the information you need about what our future sessions will involve. This includes what you can expect from me, what I'll be asking of you, and how we'll tackle the challenges you're facing. It's like getting a map before a road trip. You have the right to know where we're going, how we plan to get there, and what we might encounter along the way. And just like any trip, you're in the driver's seat. If at any point you want to take a different route or have questions about the journey, I will always welcome you to let me know. We'll then explore the specific challenges you're facing, whether they be anxiety, stress, relationship issues, self-esteem, depression, or other concerns you may have. I'll invite you to share your story at your own pace, without any pressure or judgment. This conversation will help me gain a deeper understanding of your unique situation and the context of your difficulties. Together, we'll begin to identify patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviors that may be contributing to your struggles. Please remember that therapy is a journey, and our first session is just the beginning. My role is to support you, provide you with tools and techniques from ACT, and work collaboratively with you to foster growth and change. Together, we'll work towards a life that is rich, full, and meaningful, even in the presence of pain or difficulty.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, my biggest strengths lie in my years of experience, (both as a human and as a therapist), and my ability to connect with individuals of all ages. This diverse experience has allowed me to gain valuable insights and skills in addressing a wide range of issues and challenges that clients may face. Empathy is a cornerstone of my practice, as I believe in creating a warm and compassionate therapeutic environment where clients feel understood and supported. By fostering a non-judgmental space, I aim to help clients explore their emotions and thoughts openly, facilitating deeper self-awareness and growth. Lifelong learning and education are integral to my approach, as I am committed to staying abreast of the latest research and advancements in the field of therapy. This dedication ensures that I can provide evidence-based interventions and tailor my methods to suit each client's unique needs and goals. While I have experience working with clients of all ages, I have developed a particular niche supporting individuals who experience anxiety as a part of striving to achieve their goals. Overall, my strengths combine to create a therapeutic experience that is supportive, effective, and geared towards fostering lasting positive change in the lives of my clients.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have a strong background in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), having completed four professional trainings led by originators and leaders in the ACT framework and currently engaging in another advanced degree while applying the ACT lens to all my research, coursework and clinical training experiences. ACT is a form of evidence-based, trans-diagnostic intervention rooted in behavioralism and is known to be effective for various reasons individuals seek support. A trans-diagnostic approach in mental health refers to a perspective that focuses on common underlying processes or mechanisms that cut across different categories of presenting problems. My experience with ACT has been instrumental in my practice, allowing me to help clients work through life challenges and improve their psychological flexibility. ACT has been invaluable in helping my clients navigate life challenges, manage stress, and improve their overall well-being. The unique approach of ACT has allowed me to offer effective, evidence-based support to individuals with diverse needs and has been integrated into my daily practice as a mental health counselor.
