As your therapist, I want you to know that your voice matters and deserves to be heard. With over 20 years of experience, I am adept at helping my clients realize their inner strengths and reach their full potential. When we work together, you can expect collaborative and action-oriented treatment; I’ll always have something for you to take home and practice. With unwavering support, I’ll cheer you on as you make steps towards improvement. I hold a Bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Miami, as well as a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
During our first session, I want to get to know you beyond your history and presenting problem. From the moment we meet, I’ll be looking for your strengths and how to best help you meet your goals. We’ll highlight the current positives in your life and integrate them into your treatment plan.
I am an enthusiastic, excited, passionate champion for my clients. I’ll be fiercely loyal in helping you get whatever help you need. Whether it’s a letter of support for court or pointing you in the right direction for social services, I’m skilled and ready to show up the way you need me. Additionally, I have over a decade of experience in the hospital system, so I can help you navigate social programs or healthcare.
I enjoy working with clients who are ready, present, and excited to work together. I typically see adults of all ages navigating neurodivergent diagnoses, trauma, depression, anxiety, chronic illnesses, special needs, parenting issues, or deaf/hard of hearing. I am open to seeing clients as young as 12 if they join family sessions or require a provider with American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency.
Kerri Zimmerman offers therapy covered by Husky Health and Medicaid in Connecticut.
Through collaborative and structured sessions, I guide clients in understanding the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, facilitating personal growth and improved overall well-being. My approach is to provide practical tools for changing unhealthy cognitive patterns and help clients develop more adaptive ways of thinking. This process empowers individuals to manage and overcome various mental health challenges, promoting lasting positive change.
Family Systems Therapy views the family as an interconnected system, where each member's behaviors and emotions influence and are influenced by the others. I facilitate sessions that explore patterns of interaction, communication styles, and family roles, aiming to identify and understand underlying issues. I guide families in developing healthier ways of functioning and resolving conflicts. This collaborative approach emphasizes the importance of considering the family as a whole, ultimately fostering positive changes in the overall family system.
SFBT is an evidenced-based form of psychotherapy that has been proven to help people create positive change in a short period of time. I am passionate about utilizing this approach to help people see the outcomes they desire and help them create the change to reach those outcomes.
