Shiny Jacob
I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and a Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioner‑Board Certified (PMHNP‑BC) with over 20 years of diverse clinical experience across a wide range of healthcare settings. In addition to my advanced training, I bring both professional expertise and personal insight as a mother who understands the real-life challenges families face every day. I specialize in thoughtful, evidence‑based medication management combined with meaningful non‑pharmacological interventions. I work with young children starting at age 3, adolescents, adults, and older adults. I support families navigating ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral challenges, school difficulties, and sleep concerns. I also treat individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, and perimenopausal symptoms. My approach is compassionate, practical, and deeply individualized. I focus on helping patients build skills, strengthen relationships, and create sustainable strategies that improve overall well‑being. Families often describe me as approachable, attentive, and genuinely invested in their success.

First session
In our first session, my goal is to create a comfortable and welcoming space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported. I take time to learn about what brings you in, the challenges you’ve been facing, and what you hope to achieve through care. We will talk together about your goals, explore what meaningful progress looks like for you, and begin shaping a shared treatment direction. I also clearly explain what the treatment process will look like, what you can expect from me, and how we will work together toward your goals step by step. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear understanding of our plan and how we will partner to support your well‑being.
Strengths
My therapeutic style is grounded in genuine care, compassion, and empathy. I focus on creating a warm, comfortable environment where clients feel safe to open up and express themselves freely. I use open‑ended questions and a gentle, collaborative approach that encourages exploration, insight, and trust. Clients often share that they feel understood, supported, and able to talk about difficult experiences without fear of judgment. My goal is to help each person feel seen, heard, and empowered as we work together toward meaningful change.
Ideal clients
I am best positioned to serve children beginning at age three through the school‑age years who are experiencing developmental, emotional, or behavioral challenges. My work focuses on supporting children with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior concerns. I help young clients build the skills they need to improve functioning at home, strengthen peer and family relationships, and succeed in school. I also work closely with families and educational teams to support a child’s social-emotional development, academic progress, and overall well‑being.
Treatment methods
Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a structured, evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with more balanced and adaptive perspectives. I apply CBT by teaching practical coping skills, guiding clients in evaluating automatic thoughts, and helping them link thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Sessions are goal-oriented and collaborative, focusing on building problem-solving skills, increasing behavioral activation, and reducing avoidance. I regularly incorporate brief homework exercises to reinforce skill use and track symptom changes over time. CBT allows clients to develop tools they can continue using independently, supporting long-term improvement and resilience.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
In my professional role, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals develop psychological flexibility by learning to observe their thoughts and emotions without becoming overwhelmed or controlled by them. ACT emphasizes acceptance strategies, mindfulness, and values‑based action to support clients in moving toward meaningful life goals even in the presence of difficult internal experiences. In practice, I guide clients through skills such as cognitive defusion, experiential acceptance, present‑moment awareness, and identifying personal values that inform purposeful behavior change. This approach fosters resilience and empowers individuals to respond more effectively to stress, emotional discomfort, and life challenges.
Interpersonal
I use Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to help individuals improve their emotional well‑being by addressing relationship patterns and interpersonal challenges that contribute to distress. IPT focuses on four key areas: role transitions, interpersonal disputes, grief and loss, and interpersonal sensitivity or skill deficits. In practice, I work collaboratively with clients to identify current relational stressors, clarify communication patterns, and develop healthier ways of expressing needs and navigating social interactions. By strengthening interpersonal effectiveness and addressing unresolved relational issues, clients often experience reduced symptoms and improved functioning in daily life.
