PMHNP, 4 years of experience
I am a board certified, doctoral prepared psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I completed my post graduate training at National University in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice from Azusa Pacific University in 2018 and my Nurse Practitioner certificate from National University in 2019. I graduated from California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) master’s program in 2014 with majors in Nurse Education and Advanced Community/Public health and I have been a faculty at CSUSB since 2014. I have extensive training in post-traumatic stress disorder at VA Long Beach Healthcare System and a certified Trauma-Informed specialist. Client-focused care, diagnose and administer psychotherapeutic treatments and or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. My expertise lies in the ability to provide quality, compassionate, and comprehensive mental health services including medication-assisted treatment in combination with counseling for chemical dependency and substance use disorders. My role is multidimensional, including educator, mental health advocate, and therapist.
The first session, a psychiatric evaluation, usually lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. We will start with brief introductions. Getting to know the client is imperative for client-focused care. Expect questions about mental and physical health as well as family history. This will be followed by questions about symptoms, specific concerns and challenges the patient is experiencing. A hypothesis as to what the problem is (ie - a diagnosis) will follow. Baseline labs, EKG or medical reports maybe requested as appropriate. Medication maybe prescribed to treat the problem. Therapy maybe recommended as appropriate.
As a PMHNP for several years, my knowledge base, effective communication and collaboration skills are tools that I have inculcated in my practice to bring healing to patients who have had traumatic and stressful life experiences.
My clinical experience includes trauma focused care, suicide prevention and integration of behavioral health medicine with a goal to facilitate better patient outcomes for patients with mental health disabilities. My clients are eager to improve but do not have the tools needed to make this goal a reality.
Psychotherapy provides a supportive and empathetic forum for patients to discuss their stressors and emotional concerns without fear of judgement. It serves as a guide for my patients to work through their symptoms with the goal that they can identify emotional connections, insights, and solutions that will mitigate these symptoms.

She was very kind and patient with me and also took the time to learn about my circumstances and go over other options that might work better for me. She seems like she truly cared about my wellbeing and wanted to help she was also easy for me to talk too and personable ! Thank you!

Dr. Reri Uku is very kind, and she helped me understand a little more about myself, and she also directed me to additional resources. I greatly appreciate her help and her comforting attitude throughout the session.
