Hola/Hello! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Houston TX. I received my MS from University of Houston Clear Lake, and I have been practicing for 5+ years. I work with adolescents and young adults who have experienced trauma and need help transitioning into adult life. I also have experience and enjoy helping women in different life challenging situations, from domestic violence to career burn-out. Besides my degree in counseling, I hold a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies and I'm a former academic with extensive training and expertise in cultural identity issues due to migration, feminist theory and gender. I'm fully bilingual (Spanish and English), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy certified and EMDR trained.

My therapeutic style reflects my graduate training in Brief Problem Solving Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Restructuring in the treatment of of problems such as depression, anxiety, grief, addictions, shyness and social phobias. My post-graduate experience with Mental Illness focuses on suicide prevention, intervention for Bi-Polar and Borderline Personality Disorders as well as trauma-related disorders. I completed extensive training in Life Skills, a cognitive psycho-educational program used in the aftermath of crisis situations such as Columbine. I've worked with the Dallas Diagnostic Association, Brookhaven Psychiatric Pavilion, and been an adjunct professor for graduate students at TWU and Texas Wesleyan University. A percentage of my free time is devoted to causes that reflect my passions and clinical interests including all aspects of psychology, health and wellness, and self-improvement. Welcome! I am a clinical social worker licensed in Michigan with 30 years of experience in the field and 7 years providing mental health therapy using evidenced based practices. I currently provide school based mental health services in a district with high acuity. Prior to that I was a full-time therapist for a mental health agency. I have worked extensively with children, adolescents and adults. I received my Bachelor of Social Work from Northern Michigan University in 1991 and my Master of Social Work from Michigan State University in 2003. I am a certified EMDR therapist and have certification in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I am trained in full model Dialectical behavioral therapy and incorporate these evidenced based treatments into my practice.
