About me

Hi! I’m Rosie Ponce-Ash, LCSW, a Texas-licensed clinical social worker and founder of Anchor & Light Behavioral Health. I earned my Master of Social Work from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, and have more than 13 years of experience working in medical and mental-health settings. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals from diverse backgrounds who are experiencing depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, anxiety, and complex mental-health symptoms, including hallucinations. I provide compassionate, individualized, and nonjudgmental care to help clients feel understood, develop practical coping skills, and move toward healing and meaningful change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. While providing historical context to what you are struggling with. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring warmth, genuine curiosity, and a calm, nonjudgmental presence to each session. I work to create a space where clients feel safe being honest, understood in their full context, and respected as the experts in their own lives. My approach stands out because it is both compassionate and practical. I listen for the deeper patterns, emotions, and past experiences that may be influencing the present, while also helping clients develop concrete tools they can use in daily life. I draw from trauma-informed care, CBT, psychodynamic and interpersonal approaches, mindfulness, and DBT-informed skills based on each client’s needs, goals, preferences, and pace. My experience in outpatient mental health, psychiatric care, intensive outpatient programming, medical social work, and telehealth allows me to understand how mental health affects relationships, work, health, and everyday functioning. I strive to help clients feel empowered, build emotional resilience, and make meaningful progress toward a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with clients who are ready to engage in a therapeutic alliance. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious about their state they are currently in. My plans are to aid clients to gain insight into their self-defeating patterns.

My treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I have experience providing Christian counseling, I support individuals seeking this approach by offering insights into how it may benefit them, suggesting related resources, or explaining how it can be applied in various therapeutic contexts. My goal is to assist people in understanding how they can integrate faith with mental health support for a more comprehensive and personalized healing journey.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I can provide educational resources and guidance about how CBT techniques work and how individuals might apply them to their own lives. I can also offer support in understanding how to approach common issues with a CBT framework, focusing on thought patterns, emotional regulation, and behavior change. The strength of CBT lies in its ability to empower individuals to make tangible changes in how they think and behave, providing them with lifelong tools for managing mental health.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on uncovering unconscious thoughts, early childhood experiences, and internal conflicts to help individuals understand the root causes of their current emotional struggles. Techniques such as free association, dream analysis, transference, and defense mechanism analysis are commonly used to explore the unconscious mind and bring unresolved issues to light. Through the therapeutic relationship and long-term exploration, clients gain insight into their behaviors, emotions, and interpersonal patterns, allowing for emotional healing and healthier coping mechanisms. This self-awareness empowers clients to break free from old patterns and build more adaptive ways of relating to themselves and others.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a well-structured, evidence-based treatment that can be particularly helpful for individuals who struggle with intense emotions, self-destructive behaviors, and interpersonal challenges. It combines mindfulness, acceptance, and change strategies to help clients improve emotional regulation, build healthier relationships, and develop effective coping mechanisms. DBT is typically delivered through a combination of individual therapy, group skills training, and phone coaching, providing clients with comprehensive support to practice and integrate DBT skills into their daily lives. This structured approach allows clients to make meaningful changes, leading to long-term emotional stability and healthier behaviors.

Strength-Based

Strengths-based therapy is an empowering and collaborative approach that focuses on an individual’s inherent strengths and resources to promote healing and growth. By identifying strengths, reframing challenges, and fostering a positive and hopeful outlook, strengths-based therapy encourages clients to draw on their internal and external resources to overcome obstacles. In my practice, I work alongside the client to build self-awareness, set positive goals, and navigate difficulties in a way that emphasizes resilience and empowerment. This approach is client-centered, with a focus on helping clients recognize their potential and create positive change based on their existing abilities.
