About me

My name is Elvira Aleman Vaughan. I am a Christian counselor who works with adults who have depression/anxiety. If you prefer talk therapy I'll use CBT to help you get to the root of the issue. But if you are open to trying a proven technique that is less conventional and yields quicker results, I will use EMDR to help you heal and move forward.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first few sessions I get a case history, and we begin teaching relaxation techniques/resources to help you be able to talk about what is hurting you. We face the pain and this eventually takes the power away from whatever causes us pain - we become desensitized to it.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am constantly learning and reading to keep up with the latest techniques and to improve my work. I want to provide the best possible treatment for my clients.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I help those who have childhood trauma and who feel unable to connect with people around them in a successful way. Many adults who experienced childhood trauma need help processing and healing from the trauma so that they see themselves and others in a healthier way. EMDR is a therapy that has helped and helps people reduce the symptoms of depression/anxiety that blocks them from living a full life by helping the brain heal from traumatic memories. I also use some cognitive-behavioral therapy as EMDR incorporates many different types of therapy. Begin your healing journey today.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I was trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, however, I have found EMDR helps clients faster than CBT does. EMDR helps the brain heal trauma that keeps people stuck in the past.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps people develop healthy communication and boundaries. These are skills that were often not modeled well in a home with dysfunction.
