My name is Chiquita and I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I received my BS in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and my MS in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’ve been working in the counseling field since 2012. I work with all ages especially teens and adults in areas such as anger management, anxiety, low self-esteem, school and peer issues, communication, ADHD and more. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and person centered therapy to assist clients with better functioning in their everyday lives. I listen to my clients and their needs to gain an understanding of their perspectives and presenting issues. The way I tailor sessions depends on the particular client, issues, and needs. Different clients require different methods. I am open, honest, empathetic and non-judgmental, but also tell it like it is.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I believe healing happens through meaningful connections- both within ourselves and with others. My approach is grounded in empathy, openness, authenticity, and collaboration, creating a supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, navigate challenges, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves.

Because sleep quality is critical to physical and mental health I am passionate about helping people get good sleep.
I received my PhD from Duke University and have been a practicing psychologist for several decades. I work primarily with behavioral sleep medicine because sleep problems are so widespread, and there are not enough specialists to meet the need. I have published several articles and a book on sleep and am the director of the insomnia course for the World Sleep Academy, as well as a member of the Outreach and Public Education Committee, Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. I continue working with people with anxiety, depression, and couples issues on a limited basis. The methods I use are evidence-based and trauma-informed. I am also an ordained member of the clergy (rabbi) and consider one's spirituality an important part of treatment for many, though not all, people.
I’ve practiced telehealth exclusively since early 2020. Most people appreciate working this way because of convenience. Therapy is not adversely affected, and I am even able to do hypnotherapy via telehealth.

I have always had a passion for practicing as a therapist, and the reason is simple; I believe that all human beings are and were created equally and ultimately are all in search of the same thing in life, happiness. It took me some time before I chose to pursue a career in mental health and many hours, days and years of exploring my inner most being, before I knew that this field was for me. I truly believe this has helped me become the best therapist I can be. I pride myself on continuing to grow and learn as a mental health professional, as we all know the world is constantly and rapidly changing and shifting directions. It is important to me as a therapist that I consistently check in with myself to be sure that I am providing the very best services to my clients/patients at all times.
I am truly here to serve my clients and I am one hundred percent committed to the well-being of each individual I serve. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and to become a part of your life journey.
