As a Licensed Therapist, I am committed to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards and contributing to advancing the social work profession. With over 25 years of experience in social work, I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) fluent in two languages/cultures. I have provided counseling and therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups using evidence-based and culturally sensitive approaches. I also offer online telehealth services.
I help clients identify their strengths, set goals, gain insights, and implement effective coping strategies to initiate positive changes. As a client-centered therapist, my goal is to help individuals achieve their full potential and develop new coping strategies that facilitate positive change.
The support I offer each client helps them create a path toward improved self-worth and fulfillment. My background includes extensive experience providing therapeutic services to youth and families dealing with various emotional and behavioral challenges. I also have experience treating individuals, families, and couples facing substance abuse issues, as well as facilitating women's groups that address trauma and self-esteem concerns.
I have experience in addressing addictive disorders and supporting individuals in their recovery journey. I understand the impact these disorders can have on families, and I guide individuals in overcoming addiction and codependency. My expertise includes alcohol and drug addiction, eating disorders, sex and love addiction, gambling addiction, and other related issues. Additionally, I am bilingual and can work with Spanish-speaking clients.
Managing distress without losing control or acting out is crucial. Many individuals struggle with overwhelming emotions, which can intensify their feelings. I work with clients to enhance their Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotional Regulation, and Distress Tolerance. This therapeutic approach focuses on helping individuals accept the reality of their lives and behaviors while also learning to change unhelpful patterns.

I have practiced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for many years, and I have found it to be highly effective in changing unhelpful or unhealthy patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. CBT is specifically designed to improve your quality of life quickly, making it an effective treatment for depression and anxiety.
Couples counseling, also known as relationship counseling, is a form of talk therapy that aims to help couples identify and change negative behaviors to improve their relationship. This type of therapy is designed to assist both partners in gaining a better understanding of any negative patterns within their relationship. I have extensive experience working with couples, providing support in relationship building, developing active listening skills, identifying couple strengths, resolving conflicts, facilitating fair discussions of issues, and promoting relationship growth. Over the years, I have helped numerous couples enhance their relationships and grow closer together.

Carmen is an outstanding listener and has a very warm personality. Talking with her helps me a lot, figuring out my feeling, where I want to go from there, and also gives me the tools to get there. Plus, she has a wonderful sense of humour. I am very grateful. :)

I enjoy my therapy sessions with Carmen. I like her approach and style. She has a soft tone that allows her to discuss and convey difficult topics more easily than others. Whether she genuinely cares or not you'd never know it because she comes across as caring, kind, compassionate, understanding, empathetic, and wanting to help.
