I am a Florida-based therapist, interested in working with clients from all walks of life who are interested in self-exploration and growth. I have worked in the field of counseling for 5 years and find that my favorite clients are those who "jump in" to the process of learning about themselves for the sake of building a satisfying, purpose-driven life.
First sessions are like blind dates-- Awkward, anxiety-provoking, often strange, sometimes amazing, and above all-- unpredictable. My only expectations from clients during our first meeting is that they 1) show up, and 2) are at least a little bit willing to talk. The first session is about giving me a snippet-view of your inner world. For those who have never experienced therapy, it may feel a little weird. With time, the relationship grows organically, and we collaborate to find ways to help you "empty the boxes in the attic"-- deal with challenges, traumas, and obstacles you feel have stood in the way of your growth, helping you to either change the circumstances that hold you back or change the way you think about them. Because really, what else is within our control?
I am warm, compassionate, and (I like to think) funny, but also deeply committed to helping people through their healing processes. I try not to take life too seriously, but I do take our work together seriously. However far you're willing to challenge yourself to grow, I'll meet you half way. If my words resonate with you, feel free to message me to get scheduled.
I take an integrative approach to serving diverse populations of clients, tailoring my style of counseling to the unique needs of the individual. There's no such thing as a "cookie-cutter" approach to effective therapy. The relationship between the client and counselor, like any other relationship, is as unique as a handprint. Furthermore, it's the most crucial factor in determining the long-term success of treatment. I appreciate my clients as complex, complicated, fabulous human-beings, trying to do the best they can in a messy, unpredictable world.
I help clients get to the root of challenges by identifying core belief systems that stunt their ability to grow. By getting to know our thoughts and emotions, we become detectives, tracing the inward causes of negativity in our lives, gaining the power to choose what thoughts/beliefs we want to accept and how we can effectively handle our emotions.
Traditionally developed for clients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), DBT is all about helping clients better understand and accept their emotions without letting those emotions dictate behaviors. The four modules of DBT include Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Using weekly tools called Diary Cards and Chain Analysis, we keep track of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that the client experienced, identifying ways to implement DBT tools when making choices to accomplish more positive outcomes.
