I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I have been practicing since my graduation from Antioch University in 2019, and I have been licensed since May of 2023. My experience with multiple challenges in life, and recovery from those challenges gives me a unique perspective and helps me to better serve my clients. The Japanese art form Kintsugi, meaning to mend with gold, takes broken pieces of pottery and repairs the cracks with precious metals. The fractures then become stronger than the solid areas. I believe that we, as humans, as we heal, turn our scars into our strongest assets. My passion lies in uncovering the scars, helping you to heal, and witnessing the transformation as they become the strongest part of you.
In my first session with you, I will ask you a few questions, but primarily I will listen. One of the questions I will likely ask is, "Tell me what you feel is most important for me to know about you." I will ask you about prior therapy experiences, what worked and didn't work for you, and spend some time getting to know you and putting you at ease. Finally, we'll decide on a plan for moving forward towards achieving your goals.
I love what I do with all of my heart. I connect with people very easily (it's one of my superpowers), and because of my very-lived experience, I really do understand exactly what most of my clients are experiencing themselves. There is very little that shocks or surprises me and I am comfortable discussing topics that many people are not. I am quite direct, but never harsh. I didn't become a therapist to heal my wounds. I healed my wounds and then became a therapist.
I have a strong background in working with clients who struggle with addiction and/or chronic misuse of substances. I specialize in working with trauma-induced addiction and the many areas of life that are impacted, such as relationships (family, friends, partners), financial, stability, feelings of shame and regret, and usually depression and/or anxiety. I also have a lot of experience working with the LGBTQ+ community, couples therapy, religiosity/cultism recovery, the long-term effects of systemic racism, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
