Hi, I’m Alejandra Acuña, LCSW22903. I offer compassionate, evidence-based therapy for individuals and families, specializing in trauma recovery, reducing symptoms of PTSD, and improving family communication and child behavior. My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and I strive to create a culturally responsive and supportive environment where you can heal, grow, and achieve your goals.
During your first session with me, you can expect a welcoming, comfortable, and conversational atmosphere. We’ll take time to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask questions about your current challenges, your goals for therapy, and any important aspects of your history that you’d like to share. This is also a space for you to ask me questions and learn more about my approach, so you feel comfortable and informed about our work together. My primary focus in the first session is to understand your needs and make sure you feel heard and understood. We’ll explore what a positive outcome would look like for you and begin to outline a plan for how we can work together to achieve your goals. It’s a collaborative process aimed at setting the foundation for a supportive and effective therapeutic relationship. By the end of the session, you should leave with a sense of hope and clarity about the path forward.
In sessions with clients, I create a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment. Clients often describe the space as safe and inviting—a place where they can be their authentic selves and feel truly heard and understood. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, offering guidance with empathy and respect for each person’s unique journey. Working with me feels like having a supportive partner by your side, someone who gently challenges you when needed, celebrates your progress, and is deeply invested in your healing and growth. It’s a space where hope, empowerment, and self-discovery are at the forefront, helping you navigate even the toughest moments with resilience and a sense of possibility.
I typically work with individuals and families who are navigating the challenges of trauma, toxic stress, and life transitions. Many of my clients seek relief from symptoms of PTSD, such as difficulty sleeping, trouble concentrating, irritability, and feelings of disconnection. I am especially comfortable working with helping professionals and caregivers (for example, health and mental health providers) experiencing burnout and secondary traumatic stress. We explore holistic approaches to balancing and harmonizing life and work balance, care for self and others, and how to advocate for self and others. I love working with families looking to improve communication, deepen their bonds, and foster positive behaviors in their children. Additionally, I support those who feel stuck and want to overcome fears or doubts to live more fully and pursue their dreams.
Alejandra Acuña offers therapy covered by Central California Alliance for Health (Medi-Cal), Gold Coast Health Plan (Medi-Cal), L.A. Care Health Plan (Medi-Cal), Partnership HealthPlan of California (Medi-Cal), San Francisco Health Plan (Medi-Cal) and Santa Clara Family Health Plan - Medi-Cal in California.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. I use CBT to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected, guiding them to develop healthier ways of thinking and coping with challenges.
I integrate culturally responsive practices into my work, ensuring that therapy aligns with the unique cultural backgrounds and experiences of clients.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) emphasizes a collaborative, goal-oriented process that highlights clients' strengths and resources. I use SFBT to help clients envision their preferred future and identify small, actionable steps toward achieving their goals, building on what is already working in their lives.
