Welcome! My name is Emily Palacio. I am bilingual. I speak English and Spanish. I am dually board certified as a doctoral-prepared psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner in California. I have been in the medical field for over 20 years. I have 4 years of medication management experience and 1 year of experience in therapy training. I was an emergency department nurse for 17 years and have been practicing as a family nurse practitioner at Kaiser Permanente in family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, and dermatology specialties. My well-rounded experience helps me to provide holistic care to clients in psychiatry now. I believe clients prosper when their entire being is considered. The mind, body, and spirit function in better harmony when all aspects are addressed. I embrace my multicultural heritage and I feel diversity is beautiful. I love to empower my clients to reach their full potential and I respect that everyone has unique needs and preferences. My eclectic approach to mental health provides a variety that everyone can benefit from receiving.
Our first session will provide an opportunity to get to know each other and to ensure I am a good fit for you. I make it a point to prioritize your treatment goals and will make an assessment of what you feel is most important. I always try to leave you with something positive to work on in between our sessions.
My healthcare experience of over 20 years has helped me to become a strong, safe, and competent provider. I love working with people and I enjoy being part of your journey. Clients have told me they can feel that I care about them and they appreciate me explaining things to them in a way they can understand. I believe my greatest strength is the fact that I am humble, non-judgmental, and interested in helping you to grow as a person. I come from very humble beginnings and I never forget where I came from. I believe we are partners in your care. My clients are very important to me.
Are you having a hard time finding a mental health provider that "gets you"? I enjoy working with clients who need help with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. In my experience as a nurse practitioner, I have found that clients need a provider who can make them feel respected, comfortable, and safe. My personality helps clients to feel at ease because I genuinely care. I am easy to speak to and I am very empathetic. I am passionate about my cause to empower clients to feel their best. I am realistic and will tailor your session to your individual needs. I am here for YOU!

Mindfulness strategies help to reduce stressful symptoms of anxiety and depression. I will guide you to become more aware of sensations in your body and negative thoughts you may experience. Mindfulness strategies offer an accepting, non-judgmental approach to gently shifting your focus to a positive and calm place to foster a healing change. I will provide tools that are easy to use anywhere, including your home, work, school, or social settings.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies will help you to change behavior patterns that do not serve your mental wellness. I will help you become aware of your thoughts and feelings while empowering you to recognize areas that you can improve upon. The techniques I will teach you will make adapting to difficult situations easier and help you to change negative perceptions of yourself and others.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an excellent form of therapy for individuals experiencing emotional distress and dysregulation and for those having interpersonal relationship difficulties. I will help you to explore any harmful behavioral patterns and help you to better cope with mindfulness strategies and healthy ways to find balance in a chaotic world. We cannot avoid all stress but we can learn to manage it better.
Many people seek therapy because they want to change something about themselves. If you are having mixed feelings about changing, having some hesitation, low confidence, or feeling doubtful about your ability to change, motivational interviewing can help you! Through motivational interviewing, I will partner with you to guide your thought process so you can find your own realistic and meaningful reasons to take action and change your life.
Trauma-informed care helps my clients to feel safe and empowered because this type of therapy provides emotional support, transparency, and collaboration between the provider and the client. Trauma-informed care helps clients feel heard and understood and the goals of therapy include building trust and maintaining respect. Clients can respond to therapy better when the provider is responsive to each person's individual needs and when humility is honored. I provide culturally competent care to minimize bias so clients can feel they are in a safe place to discuss painful experiences. Together, we will build your resilience and ensure you feel recognized and validated.
