New to Grow
Hi, my name is Colleen and I am an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in CA. I work with adults and teens utilizing a trauma informed approach to care. I specialize in helping clients to manage anxiety and depression, as well as navigating relationships and life transitions. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities that will vary based on the individual client's needs. I take a strengths based, person centered approach to therapy. I am experienced working with clients through IPT (Interpersonal Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and exploring attachment.
Our goal in our first session will be to get to know each other. I will ask you questions about your reasoning for seeking therapy and what you would like to be different through therapy. We will create some goals and you will be able to ask whatever questions you have about the therapy process. I am here to support you through this process and help you work towards and achieve your therapy goals.
I work hard to build strong rapport with each client and provide a safe, judgement free therapeutic space where clients can explore and navigate challenging topics. I utilize the therapeutic relationship to build trust and provide support to each client as they navigate their path.
I work with adults and transition aged youth (16-25) who are navigating through symptoms of anxiety and depression. I focus on individuals who are experiencing new stressors such as role changes, changes in relationships, career changes, or major life transitions. I am also experienced in working with clients who want to improve their self-esteem and learn tools to manage stress and anxiety.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I am experienced in using DBT to help clients with a range of diagnosis and symptoms build practical skills for managing intense and distressing emotions. Using DBT in session, clients will learn skills like mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Attachment-based
I use attachment based therapy in my practice to help clients understand how their early relationships can shape the way they connect with others today. In treatment, we can work together to build a greater sense of safety and security within themselves and their relationships.
Compassion Focused
I use Compassion Focused Therapy to help clients develop a kind and supportive relationship with themselves. We will address self-shame and self-criticism, utilizing compassion to build skills like self-soothing, mindfulness, and compassionate reactions to negative thought patterns and self-talk.
Interpersonal
I am a trained practitioner in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and use this modality to support you through a variety of life transitions. This can include improving interpersonal relationships, navigating through grief and loss, and strengthening social supports.
Trauma Informed Care
Utilizing trauma informed care in practice helps us to recognizing the widespread impact of trauma on mental health and recovery. My approach emphasizes creating a safe, respectful, and collaborative environment where clients feel empowered and supported. I integrate trauma-informed principles and prioritize trust, choice, and cultural sensitivity.
