I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 14 years of experience helping clients. I am a proud ‘Appalachian-American’ that was born and raised deep in the mountains of Upper Northeast TN.
Although many of my personal life experiences are about what one would expect of someone growing up in East TN (cue BBQ ribs & banjo music🪕), my work experience have been vastly different. I have been quite fortunate to get to work with individuals from quite literally all walks of life. I have worked with clients from preschool to post retirement. Thanks to the internet I have been able to help individuals across the globe, from various cultures, diverse religious beliefs, race, gender spectrums, socioeconomic status, etc. One thing I have learned in my work with all of these individuals is that although each of their stories are unique, ultimately, they all seek/want the same core things. I think much of my success in working with a wide assortment of clients is that I attempt to be open, understanding, curious and cultivate a nonjudgmental atmosphere for our sessions. The working relationship between a therapist and their client is a key factor to client’s achieving treatment goals.
Reaching out for therapy takes courage, and my goal is to make the process feel approachable from the very first session. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 14 years of experience helping adults and adolescents navigate ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and major life transitions.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine conversation built on trust, curiosity, and collaboration. Rather than simply listening or giving advice, I work alongside clients to better understand what's keeping them stuck while developing practical strategies that fit their lives. My approach integrates evidence-based therapies with compassion, humor when appropriate, and a focus on long-term growth.
Mrs. Whiteside has worked in various mental health settings maintaining her unwavering focus on mothers and small children. As a perinatal psychotherapist, Mrs. Whiteside works with mothers and/or families who are struggling with perinatal mental illness during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Mrs. Whiteside is currently a social work doctoral student at The University of Louisville researching the impact of perinatal mood disorders, as evidence indicates that depression and other mood disorders in parents can have a harmful impact on children, including cognitive difficulties, insecure attachment, and behavioral problems.

Hello and welcome! I’m Michelle, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with more than 20 years of experience working in the field of behavioral health.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Austin Peay State University and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’m licensed in North Carolina (LCMHC), Tennessee (LPC), Kentucky (LPCC-S), and Georgia (LPC).

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, burnout, or a life transition, you don’t have to sort through it alone. My approach is warm and supportive, with honest conversations and thoughtful challenges. I’ll meet you with understanding while encouraging accountability as you grow. Together, we’ll identify what’s within your control, strengthen emotional regulation, and build practical tools you can use outside of sessions to improve daily life and support lasting change.

Whether you’re navigating a life transition, managing stress, or feeling stuck, I provide a supportive and structured space where we can work collaboratively to identify what’s not working—and develop practical, sustainable strategies to help you thrive.
Our past experiences often influence how we view ourselves and interact in relationships. Sometimes, those patterns stem from pain and continue to affect us in ways that can keep us feeling stuck or disconnected. I am someone who likes to make a difference. I love helping people, and love seeing the changes client's can make when they know the path through. My therapeutic approach is inspired by a profound message from one of my favorite therapists: “You may feel like you're in the desert right now, but I will walk beside you. I won't pull you or push you. When you're tired, we'll rest. When you're scared, I'll stand with you. When you're sad, I'll sit with you. Together, we will reach the other side.” These words continue to resonate deeply with me and shape my compassionate, supportive practice.
