You don’t have to keep holding everything together on your own. When life feels heavy, uncertain, or overwhelming, it can be hard to know where to start. My goal is to offer a calm, supportive space where you can pause, make sense of what you’re carrying, and begin finding your way back to yourself. Together, we’ll explore what’s been getting in the way of feeling balanced and connected, using evidence-based approaches and genuine collaboration to help you heal, grow, and rediscover a stronger sense of self. Hi, I’m Heather Schmauk MS LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). With over a decade of experience supporting individuals through challenges related to mental health, addiction, and personal growth. I help adults navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, and major life transitions. My approach is grounded in compassion and collaboration—meeting clients where they are, while helping them reconnect with their authentic self. Hi, I’m Megan! I’m a licensed therapist in New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina who helps people feeling burned out, anxious, or stuck in survival mode reconnect with balance and purpose. Many of my clients come to me after feeling overwhelmed by work, relationships, or the constant pressure to keep going — even when they’re running on empty. I create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, make sense of what’s been weighing on you, and learn healthier ways to cope. My style is compassionate and collaborative — I meet you where you are and help you build practical tools for stress, boundaries, and self-care that actually fit your life. Before starting my private practice, I worked in behavioral health settings supporting individuals living with substance use, bipolar disorder, and other chronic mental health conditions. That experience taught me that healing isn’t one-size-fits-all — and that real change happens when therapy feels safe, personalized, and empowering. If you’re ready to move from burnout to balance, I’d love to help you take that next step.

I’m a psychodynamic and psychoanalytic-oriented therapist who works in a warm, relational, and insight-driven way. I help clients understand the deeper emotional patterns, internal conflicts, and early experiences that shape how they feel and respond today. My approach is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and a belief that real change comes from understanding the meaning behind our struggles—not just managing symptoms. In our work together, I pay attention to the themes that show up in your relationships, your history, and even in the therapeutic relationship itself. These patterns often hold the key to why certain feelings or situations keep repeating. By exploring them at a comfortable pace, we create room for clarity, emotional relief, and lasting growth. Clients come to me for help with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, family conflict, self-esteem, and difficult life transitions. I offer a thoughtful, steady space where you can explore your inner world, strengthen your sense of self, and move toward a more authentic and meaningful life.

Hello I often hear clients say, “I don’t even know where to start” when they first begin therapy. I understand that feeling. The first step is to make sense of what’s happened in your life in order to start to tackle the issues and ultimately make some changes. I am a seasoned therapist with 17 years experience helping adult clients find their own inner wisdom and strength to resolve issues in their lives. It feels burdensome to rely on friends and family to help us through difficult life challenges. The greatest joy for me as a therapist is to be able to provide a safe space where clients feel unconditionally accepted and heard without judgement. Therapy is a collaborative process where the client and therapist work together to explore and identify barriers which prevent resolution. I believe that the therapeutic alliance between client and provider is key to a successful outcome. I use psychodynamic, solution focused and client centered approaches to help clients gain insight, identify barriers and foster empowerment to make changes and resolve issues.

Hello! My name is Rukiya and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in New Jersey. Professionally I have been working as an outpatient clinician in community mental health for the past five years and working in the field for the past 8 years. I work with adults from different communities who are navigating challenges such as anxiety, stress, identity concerns, and self-esteem. My approach is person-centered and collaborative, grounded in the belief that individuals are the experts of their own experiences. I help clients to reconnect with themselves and their communities at their own pace. Personally, I went into this field wanting to understand myself more and others around me. What came out of it was finding myself, finding community, and finding the language to name things that were happening to me and around me. I believe people are the experts of themselves and I get the honor to hold space and help connect the dots. Outside of Therapy I am a writer and a poet. I am a former peer educator. Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New Jersey rather than a city like Newark?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New Jersey from Jersey City to Paterson! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New Jersey.

Will my therapist take Cigna?

Yes! If you use Cigna you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Cigna you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
