New to Grow
I have a relaxed yet professional approach to therapy. You're as much the expert in the room as me! I integrate evidence based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness approaches into the work to help you feel like you're actually getting tools you can use in your real life.
I want you to feel like I have a real understanding of what is bringing you to therapy and what you want to get out of therapy. In a first session, we'll usually spend some time talking about what brought you in & the symptoms that are bothering you the most. We'll also talk about what you've already tried that has helped/not helped. And then I'll make some recommendations about what I think could be a good path forward and we'll decide together what next step to take (usually whether or not you'd like to schedule a 2nd appointment or if you need any referrals for medication, etc).
Previous clients have given me feedback that they were quickly able to feel at ease with me, even if we don't come from similar backgrounds or life experiences. I strike a balance between being supportive and challenging problematic thinking/behaviors without being judgey.
Folks who are dealing with depression and anxiety and want practical tools to manage it. Those who are struggling with insomnia and want relief. People who are in the midst of or are considering career transitions/entrepreneurship and want accountability in the process. I also have extensive experience working with PTSD and seeing genuine relief from symptoms. I do my best work with clients who know the real magic happens outside of therapy as they practice the skills we discuss in session.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most researched therapies out there! It works wonders at treating Depression and Anxiety. It's chock full of really practical tools that I can teach in session. Most people walk away feeling like they have new skills to help manage symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia is a 4-6 session treatment that helps people start sleeping better. It looks at some of the problematic behaviors a person may be doing that are accidentally worsening their sleep and works to correct them. It also looks at unhelpful thoughts about sleep that put undue pressure on you to 'get sleep right' and works to help you develop more unhelpful thoughts that will support sleep. It's a quick therapy that has folks sleeping better in about 4 weeks!
Interpersonal Therapy is really great at treating depression that is coming from 1 of 4 areas: unresolved grief; relational conflicts; life transitions; or loneliness. It looks at building the skills necessary to resolve those particular problems and in turn reduce the depression symptoms.
Prolonged Exposure is a well researched therapy that is very effective at treating PTSD. Many people who have experience trauma try to avoid anything that feels like the trauma - so sometimes that means avoiding crowds, certain types of people, certain types of situations, etc. While it makes a lot of sense to do (why wouldn't you avoid things that make you feel terrible!?), unfortunately what starts to happen is that life starts to get really small. Even things you enjoy you may start to avoid. This is a treatment that helps you get your life back by slowly & methodically confronting those things. It can be hard to do! But the most common thing I hear from folks who complete it is "I got my life back."
