LCSW, 10 years of experience
Hello! I go by Lety. I'm a Bilingual (Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in California. I received my Masters from the University of Southern California and have been practicing for 9 years, working primarily with youth and families, though within the last years working with all ages. I particularly enjoy creating a nonjudgmental space for clients to sort their thoughts, beliefs, and values, walking alongside them, and guiding when necessary to reach their personal goals.
The first session is an overview of treatment, exchange of information to become acquainted, and ending with collaboratively creating SMART goals to drive sessions. I specifically enjoy getting to know the smaller details such as hobbies, pets, idiosyncrasies, etc.
My therapist superpowers are being patient (playing the long-game in building trust, safety, trouble-shooting, etc). I pride myself on being a nonjudgmental container to help hold space for other's emotional burdens, yet also to acknowledge life's glimmers of joy.
I love working with all ages and walks of life, particularly those that are highly expressive, pensive, and open to make small changes and gain different perspectives....even if you aren't there yet but hope to be. Basically I enjoy working with anyone willing to be even a bit vulnerable and have uncomfortable conversations.
I typical weave CBT concepts for a range of presenting problems, to help restructure cognition and push toward change
Understanding culture provides context to presenting problems. I firsthand am a child of immigrants, understanding the outsider perspective, lack of resources/priveleges
My foundational practice is in children and families, understanding the system, creating norms/structure, effective communication, while building relationships
Part of my foundational training was in trauma, learning, understanding, and educating clients of its impact on the body mind. I have experience in practicing TFCBT, also receiving weekly trauma supervision
In working with adult, I have realized client's leading session can be beneficial in understanding needs and values in providing care that responsive to them
