Hi! I'm Debbi, a licensed psychotherapist with 30+ years working in the behavioral health field. I'm deeply committed to helping people better manage distressing, painful emotions and thoughts. My main areas of expertise are managing stress, anxiety and depression, healing from trauma, as well as coaching people in realizing their life goals and helping their personal growth. I have primarily worked with adults throughout my career, providing individual, family, couples, and group therapy. I look forward to meeting you!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session I want to help you feel safe and at ease with me as well as with the therapeutic process. It is my job to earn your trust and build a good rapport with you from the very beginning. To that end, I'll ask a lot of questions to help me understand the specific challenges and concerns you're facing so I can best support you in achieving the outcomes you're looking for. We can begin work on your feelings of overwhelm with how stress, depression, anxiety, and frustration are affecting your daily life and relationships. Understanding and healing from any past trauma and negative experiences by identifying why you have such strong, negative reactions to some things is a priority as well.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

In the 30+ yrs I've worked as a therapist, my clients have consistently shared with me that what has helped them the most is my deeply empathic and caring listening style. I'm dedicated to providing a non-judgmental, respectful, accepting, compassionate, and culturally sensitive space for my clients to share their stories. I provide the emotional support and validation necessary to feeling heard, seen, understood, and valued. My priority is to help you feel better: more empowered, self confident, and with an improved sense of self worth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My passion is collaborating with people wanting to move out of survival mode (a fight-flight-freeze-appease mindset) to greater self awareness, while also developing true self compassion so you see yourself as the intrinsically worthy person you are. Living life by default is neither satisfying nor fulfilling. Finding meaning and purpose in life helps you to take charge of your life. If you're having problems with your relationships, communication style, self-image/self worth, and not functioning the way you want to, I can help you create a healthier way to respond to life with intention, balance, and from a place of genuine self acceptance. From there you will improve every aspect of your life so you can feel empowered and confident rather than stuck and overwhelmed. I use different approaches in therapy tailored to fit your needs: person-centered, strength based, mindfulness focused, supportive, trauma responsive, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, spiritual, psychodynamic, and Tapping with the goal of helping you to better understand the connections between thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. From there I'll support you in changing what's not working so you can evolve into the person you want to be.

My treatment methods

Humanistic

Identifying your purpose and exploring what meaning life has for you, clarifying your values and core beliefs are all essential to experiencing contentment, and creating a fulfilling life. Having someone listen to you with empathy and caring, and without judgment is a powerful experience. The treatment focus is on self development, understanding (and revising if you wish) the choices you make, becoming the best version of yourself. This type of therapy aims to increase self worth and confidence, greater insight into your life and motivations, improved relationships, and more effective management of anxiety and depression.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Short term counseling designed to make the best use of your strengths and skills in collaboration with the therapist, who provides guidance, support, and a fresh perspective, in order to help you find resolutions to specific problems in the present as well as to define clear, actionable goals for the future.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We all filter our experiences with habits of thought and beliefs that can occasionally create problems in our relationships, and/or cause anxiety, depression, and feeling misunderstood. This treatment method involves examining our thoughts to determine if they may be inaccurate or unrealistic, which can lead disruptions in relationships and negative changes in our moods. From there the distorted thoughts can be challenged and corrected to improve all areas of our lives.

Compassion Focused

People want to feel seen, heard, and understood. Compassion and empathy play a significant role in helping clients feel accepted and valued as they are. I use this treatment style in conjunction with other treatment methods such as trauma responsive, person-centered therapy that incorporates a strength-based approach.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness - being fully present in the here and rather than living in the past or focusing only on the future - along with a gratitude mindset can bring about a sense of peace, wellbeing, as well as a genuine appreciation and radical acceptance of life /self. I also teach an uncommon but highly effective method for improving (and healing) any and every aspect of your life called Tapping. Originally known as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) it has been proven in multiple clinical trials to significantly improve physical, mental, emotional health in addition to the achievement of desired lifestyle changes, personal goals, self-development among other things.
