Hi. My name is Philip Thomas. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist(LMFT). I received my Masters degree from Argosy University and have been practicing for seven years. I have a passion for helping individuals overcome various obstacles and challenges; as well as helping couples and families create and experience healthy relationships. The clients I serve often describe themselves as people who care for all those around them, while denying themselves proper self care. Through our work together, I support them with developing skills for setting health boundaries while also staying true to their giving nature.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, client's (whether individuals or couples) can expect for introductions and rapport building. Subsequently, we will have a discussion about the presenting challenges and set clear goals for therapy that will be used as a guide for treatment in following sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My approach to therapy is to provide a safe space for the client to be their authentic, vulnerable self; and develop a clear understanding of the core goals of their therapeutic journey. My strength as a clinician is my ability to accompany the client on that journey: engaging them in healthy processing of issues and supporting them with developing a solid repertoire of skills to significantly reduce or eliminate those issues.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with individuals whose life circumstances and challenges perhaps have caused them to experience disorders in their mood and/or emotional dysregulation e.g. anger, anxiety, or depression. My typical client may also struggle with interpersonal effectiveness or reaching various life goals. It is my aim to support the client with developing skills to reduce symptoms, reach goals, and have a good quality of life. Secondly, I have a passion for working with couples that are experiencing challenges that impede them from having a healthy relationship e.g. frequent arguing, lack of communication, infidelity etc. It is my aim to support the couple with developing skills for effective communication, improving connection and intimacy, and enjoyable companionship within the relationship.
