We are responsible for our own choices, and sometimes for the choices of others. That responsibility can feel daunting, especially when change is already unfolding beneath the surface. I believe that asking for help is itself a courageous act of authenticity. My practice provides a direct, down-to-earth space for adults navigating major life transitions, emotional overwhelm, and pattern breaking, focusing entirely on real-time reality and practical tools you can use outside of our sessions.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who believes therapy should be a space where you feel supported, understood, and also empowered to make meaningful changes in your life. My approach is warm, direct, practical, and trauma-informed. I enjoy helping clients understand the deeper patterns behind their emotions, relationships, behaviors, and reactions while developing healthier ways to cope, communicate, set boundaries, and move forward.
I work especially well with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, self-worth concerns, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, and difficulty establishing healthy boundaries. I believe insight is important, but therapy should also give you tools you can actually use outside of the session.
As a therapist, I am compassionate but straightforward. I will meet you where you are without judgment, while also encouraging you to challenge patterns that may no longer be serving you. My goal is to help you develop a stronger understanding of yourself, trust your own judgment, regulate your emotions more effectively, and create a life and relationships that feel healthier, calmer, and more aligned with who you want to be.

Hello! My name is Douglas (Doug) Starliper and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) licensed to practice psychotherapy in both Maryland and Virginia! Before becoming a licensed therapist, I spent a career as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division where I deployed four times. The struggles many Veterans are facing today are what galvanized my interest and desire to begin my 2nd career as a therapist. I utilized my GI bill to complete my undergraduate degree at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD and my graduate degree at University of Maryland Baltimore. I recently completed the supervised portion of my career and am currently fully licensed to practice independently as a LCSW-C.
I have always been interested in people and their stories. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Do you feel overwhelmed or stressed by daily life? Are social interactions difficult for you? Do you often experience feelings of loneliness? If you answered yes, together we can work on strategies to help address the challenges that you face. I am here to support your needs. My experience includes assisting with depression, addiction, anxiety, adjustment concerns, and coping skills. I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field.
Hello,
My name is Keith, I have been working with youth and adolescents in the mental health field for about thirteen years. I have worked with young people suffering from traumatic experiences (PTSD), to include physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. I have assisted young people with symptoms associated with depression and anxiety. Also, I have experience in assisting young people with self-esteem/self-worth issues. I have helped young people who are suicidal and with individuals suffering from psychotic disorders. Further, I have assisted young people with tension within the home setting and ways he or she can navigate these feelings in a healthy manner.
Personally, I have two daughters that are my world and a very spoiled elderly dog. I enjoy sports, working out, and being outdoors. I have been described as very easy going and easy to talk to.
In my practice, the client comes first, and the conversation goes where he or she would like it to.
I am an AK amputee, a person with a disability, a disabled person, a one-legged person, or as medical folks will say a person with a "residual limb" (I have never heard an amputee call their stump a residual limb). If you have been looking for a therapist and you see the photo they choose to put on their page, how many put their disability in their photo? That choice says something. I am also a psychotherapist with 50 years experience of providing therapy to adolescents, adults, and families. My identity shifted 10 years ago when my right leg was amputated above the knee (AK). The identity as a disabled person is not a sought after identity. In many ways being disabled sucks big time. Providing telehealth services would be one way for me to "hide" my disability. Just never point the camera toward my leg. I don't like my experience of me just walking into a room and my leg has already introduced me long before I say my name. I am looking for clients that are disabled in some way and want to work on not letting that "disability label " suck your lifeblood away.
I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Montclair State University and my master of social work from New York University. I have been practicing therapy for over 13 years and an additional three years in other realms of the helping profession. I have experience in a residential setting as well as various counseling centers & a private group practice. I spent numerous years working with trauma, as well as school-based health centers. I have specialized experience working with depression, anxiety, stress, relational and family conflict, and abuse.
My name is Maria. I have been practicing therapy for 21 years. I have worked in a variety of settings such as, a hospital emergency room seeing individuals struggling with mental health issues. I have also work with children and adults. I feel privileged to have you allow me into your life and share your experiences and struggles with me.
