New to Grow
Hi, I’m Kei (pronounced “Key”), founder of Keys to Coping Counseling & Wellness PLLC and a Licensed Professional Counselor currently licensed in Virginia. I have experience in outpatient therapy, school-based counseling, multisystemic work, clinical assessments, utilization review, and substance use counseling. I specialize in working with teens, adults, parents, and helping professionals who may be struggling with stress, anxiety, burnout, emotional overwhelm, behavioral challenges, relationship concerns, or life transitions. I understand that life can feel heavy at times, and my goal is to provide a supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow through whatever challenges you may be facing. My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and holistic, recognizing the connection between mental, emotional, behavioral, and environmental factors that impact overall well-being. I use person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and solution-focused approaches to help you build practical coping skills, increase self-awareness, improve emotional wellness, and create meaningful change in your life. For those who desire it, I also offer a faith-integrated approach that incorporates Christian values and spirituality into the counseling process. I believe therapy should feel like a safe and nonjudgmental space where you can show up authentically, process life openly, and move toward healing at your own pace. It would be an honor to walk alongside you on your journey toward growth, balance, and emotional wellness.
In our first session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free space where you don’t have to pretend to have everything figured out. My goal is to help you feel comfortable enough to show up as yourself while we begin exploring what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the process. We’ll spend time getting to know each other, discussing the challenges you’ve been facing, and identifying goals that feel meaningful to you. I understand that starting therapy can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming, so I move at a pace that feels right for you. You can expect me to listen with compassion, ask thoughtful questions, and create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported as we work together toward healing, growth, and practical change in your everyday life.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported without judgment. I believe meaningful therapy starts with a real human connection, so I strive to show up with compassion, authenticity, and understanding while also helping you develop practical tools you can use in everyday life. Another strength I bring to the counseling process is my ability to adapt therapy to your unique needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I integrate person-centered, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, and holistic approaches to help you build coping skills, increase self-awareness, strengthen emotional wellness, and create meaningful, lasting change. For those who desire it, I also offer a faith-integrated approach that incorporates Christian values and spirituality into the therapeutic process.
My ideal clients are teens, adults, parents, and helping professionals who are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck, or navigating difficult life transitions. Many of the individuals I work with are trying to balance the demands of everyday life while managing stress, anxiety, behavioral challenges, relationship concerns, self-esteem struggles, or feelings of burnout. I especially enjoy working with clients who are ready to gain greater self-awareness, develop healthier coping strategies, improve communication, and create meaningful change in their lives. I also support parents who are seeking guidance, practical tools, and a deeper understanding of their child or teen’s emotional and behavioral needs. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to be themselves, process their experiences honestly, and move toward healing, growth, and emotional wellness at their own pace.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My treatment approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I work collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and build practical tools that support emotional wellness and personal growth.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
My treatment approach incorporates Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help clients identify their strengths, build on existing successes, and create practical solutions to the challenges they are facing. Rather than focusing solely on problems, I work collaboratively with clients to explore what is already working, clarify goals, and develop realistic steps toward meaningful change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
My treatment approach is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, which emphasizes creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely heard, valued, and understood. I believe that each person has the capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change when provided with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard.
Faith based therapy
For clients who desire it, I offer a faith-integrated counseling approach that incorporates Christian values, spirituality, and biblical principles into the therapeutic process. My goal is to provide a supportive space where clients can explore both their emotional well-being and spiritual growth in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to them. Using evidence-based practices alongside a faith-centered perspective, I help clients navigate life’s challenges, strengthen coping skills, process difficult emotions, and build resilience while honoring their personal beliefs and values. I recognize that spirituality can be an important source of healing, hope, and purpose for many individuals and families. This approach is always optional and tailored to each client’s comfort level, ensuring that therapy remains respectful, collaborative, and centered around the client’s unique needs and goals.
