I believe that every person possesses the inner strength and resources needed to find happiness and healing. As a transgender woman, I understand both the internal and external forces that can stir self-doubt, amplify fear, and lead to deep feelings of loneliness and uncertainty. I also know—through both personal and professional experience—that self-acceptance and joy are not only possible, but also within reach. Science consistently shows that those who seek support often find meaningful relief and lasting change. I bring to my practice a mindfulness-based approach grounded in compassion, presence, and affirmation. My work is especially focused on serving the LGBTQAI+ community, though I warmly welcome anyone seeking an empathic, nonjudgmental partner in their journey toward a more fulfilling life. In addition to my clinical work, I have served as an adjunct and visiting professor at Washington University in St. Louis, and as professor and dean of the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. My academic and clinical experiences have always been deeply interconnected, and both continue to inform my commitment to human dignity, resilience, and transformation.

Hello, I am Christina Rydeen. I have been a licensed professional counselor for 13 years. It took me a long time to make this a career and I used to just attract unhappy people wherever I went who needed to talk. Study and research led me to the excitement of learning that as we work on our lives--we really can break old patterns that no longer serve our self interest and we really can emerge into a newer version of who we want to be. A lot of times in life we stop growing, thinking, "I've got this," when we don't realize learning might be a process that doesn't have a stopping point. Is it possible various forms of growth may take our whole lives? Finding and achieving goals as well as the inner work of redefining what is going on in our minds and hearts is a possibility if you want to take it. Blessings and hope and a way to change our perspective might really be possible for everyone..

I am an experienced therapist licensed in Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, and Kansas. I work with individuals, couples, and older adults seeking thoughtful, results-focused support during periods of stress, transition, or relationship strain. Many of my clients are capable, high-functioning people who feel overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or stuck despite “doing all the right things.” Couples often come in feeling caught in repetitive conflict or emotional distance. Older adults frequently seek support around anxiety, caregiving, loss, health changes, retirement, or redefining purpose in a new life stage. My approach is active, collaborative, and grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and relational work. Together, we focus on understanding patterns, building practical skills, and taking values-based action to create meaningful, sustainable change. I earned my master’s degree from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University and am known for being supportive, direct, compassionate, and realistic—with a good sense of humor.

Hello, my name is Vanessa, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Carolina. I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and I provide counseling in both languages to best support my clients’ needs. My professional background in mental health began during my undergraduate and graduate studies, where I gained experience working with children through the Department of Children & Families, with older adults in skilled nursing facilities, and with adolescents in group homes. Over the years, I have expanded my work to include diverse populations and settings. I served as a Nurse Navigator at one of the largest cancer hospitals in South Florida, providing counseling and advocacy for oncology patients and their families. I have also worked with adults in inpatient rehabilitation for substance use treatment, facilitated care for court-ordered clients, and supported outpatient clients within the LGBTQ+ community. I draw from multiple evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and individualized treatment planning. My focus is to meet clients where they are, help them return to a baseline where they feel comfortable and capable, and empower them to navigate life’s challenges. I consider myself open-minded, compassionate, and deeply empathetic. My mantra is simple: I am here for you. My role is to walk alongside you, provide tools and support, and help you manage both daily stressors and long-standing challenges. Freedom of mind. Don’t let worrying, about your past or current life stressors take up any more free real estate in your mind. Worrying offers NO RETURN on your investment. I’m Andrea Onukwue! It’s a pleasure and privilege to welcome you to Freed Mind Consulting, LLC. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with Psychotherapy Privileges licensed to practice independently in the states of MO and NY. For the past five years, I've had my full-time private practice. Over the past 20 years, I’ve practiced in a variety of settings and contexts as a practitioner, C-suite executive employee assistance consultant, and senior executive leader. I’m dually credentialed as a psychotherapist and educational leader. I know people and have extensive experience journeying with individuals from all walks of life, as they seek greater clarity, wellness, fulfillment, and peace. My clients describe me as: Honest, easy to talk to, and highly competent in providing goal-directed care that achieves results. Levity and life application are always an integrated aspect of normalizing the treatment experience. My approach emphasizes cultivating a freed mindset as essential to a healthy, productive, and enjoyable life. It also emphasizes improving communication, managing expectations, and establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries in interpersonal connections. Something that stands out about where I offer therapy is: Your telehealth session can occur in your own indoor or outdoor private space as long as you have a stable connection, are comfortable, and not operating a vehicle in your state of residence.

Hi, I'm Jonni Allen, from Houston, Texas, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and an Advanced Mediator. I received my masters degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and my law degree from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. I started Pink Rose Therapy to help women reach their full potential. Through empowerment, support, and emotional development I have seen women achieve greater success in their career, higher reports of satisfaction and enjoyment from their interpersonal relationships and a genuine calm and peacefulness when enjoying their down time, allowing more time to spend on hobbies, side hustles, or causes with greater vigor and passion. I approach individual therapy as a partnership, where you and I both work on your treatment plan goals and checking in with how effective our work together is going. Each person is unique and has specific needs. Typically, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques to challenge your current assumptions about your situation. I specialize in people experiencing anxiety, adjustment concerns around life transitions, and personality disorders. I am trauma informed and can help you realize how past traumas are impacting your mental health today, and strategies to cope better and calm the mind and body. I am a single mom to three children one adult, and two elementary age.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Missouri rather than a city like Kansas City?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Missouri from Saint Louis to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Missouri.

Will my therapist take Surest (formerly Bind)?

Yes! If you use Surest (formerly Bind) you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Surest (formerly Bind) you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
