New to Grow
Hello! My name is Christy Newsham and I am a person centered professional counselor who is passionate about the neurodivergent community and helping to empower neurodivergent individuals through compassionate listening, making individuals feel seen and heard, psycho-education, and helping each individual reach their personal goals through learning what coping skills work for that individual. It is my hope that clients will develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their strengths, and how we can utilize those strengths to develop coping skills for those areas of life that present a challenge. Each session is focused on the individual and achievement of goals that will allow them greater insight into who they are and living the life they envision for themselves.
In our first meeting, it is my hope that you will feel heard and validated, and that you have an idea of what our work together will look like. The focus of the first session, as well as those that follow, is you! We will collaborate to identify your individual strengths, challenges, and goals for our work with one another. Most of all, it is my hope that you leave our first session hopeful about how our work with one another will help you reach your personal goals and that you will be looking forward to us meeting again!
As a neurodivergent individual myself, I can understand first hand how difficult it can be to move through a world that does not feel built for you or your success. Through having this first hand understanding and experience, I am able to hold space for individuals who are feeling this same way and support them in developing skills to navigate the world in ways that allow you to feel less strife. I also help individuals to identify how their individual strengths within their neurodivergence can be their superpowers. I am a compassionate, attentive, and nonjudgemental listener, and am able to pose questions that allow for reflection and insight, as well as help individuals move from insight to action. In our work together it is my hope that we will create a safe space where you feel empowered and that you have the skills you need in order to achieve your personal goals.
My experience in schools has placed me in a unique position of feeling adept at working with clients ranging from school age children to adults, as I have had the opportunity to do this within the school settings in which I have worked. I also have a strong sense of purpose and passion working with and supporting neurodivergent children and adults and would love to use my skills to support this community of individuals. Ultimately, my ideal client is any individual who is seeking to gain insight into who they are and how their life experiences, individual strengths, challenges, and thought patterns could be impacting their current reality. These individuals would also possess a desire to learn skills that can help them achieve their personal goals and reach a deeper sense of inner peace and healing.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Knowledge is power and that is one of the reasons I choose to utilize CBT in my work with clients. A key part of our work through a CBT lens is learning more about what is impacting a client, as well as learning about how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected to one another. We will also focus on how to challenge these thoughts and modify behaviors that are not serving the client, to achieve personal goals. Clients will feel empowered as they learn more about themselves, as well as build a robust set of coping skills throughout our work together.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
As the client, you are at the center of all of the work we will do in sessions. Using a person-centered approach means focusing on the individual in front of you, allowing them to guide the work, and identify the goals most important to the individual. It also means that I will provide a space free of judgement and full of collaboration. I believe that the client is the expert and I am there to listen with empathy and help guide an individual towards the achievement of your personal goals.
