“Life is what happens after we make plans”. I believe life has a way of bringing us to feelings of
loneliness, hopelessness, or can become overwhelming causing change at a rapid rate. When
these difficulties occur they can lead to depression, anxiety or feeling as though you can not
move forward. At times like these it can be helpful to address theses with someone who will
help you to begin to move forward again. Therapy is a solution to life’s plans that were not a part
of the ones you laid out for yourself. Therapy can get you back moving forward.
I am here to get you on that track. I have been in the field of mental health for over seven years.

What happens when our well-intentioned - yet sometimes uncooperative - brains try to protect us from experiencing harm? Yup, you got it! It's called Stress, also known as Anxiety, and at times it can be quite the nuisance. You are welcome to join me on a journey of knowledge and self-discovery to recognize and appreciate how our brain and bodies have helped us survive the personal challenges and struggles life presents. And then, let's help our brain recognize that, when we are actually safe, we don't need to go into stress mode, and we can learn how to direct Anxiety to take a seat until it is next needed.
Often times, Anxiety's friends, Depression and Trauma, love to join the party (uninvited). Together, we can learn to appreciate them as well, while sending them on their way.
Along the way, let's tap into a bit of Grace and Self-Compassion. Let's also identify the multitude of Strengths and Resources in place, and use them to move from a Fear-Based response, to one of Courage.

Welcome! My name is Stephanie Harris and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor from Vermont, but currently living in Chicago. I am happy to help you with whatever you are facing in life right now. I take a very Person-Centered approach to counseling. I would also like to help you recognize your strengths and build your confidence. Together, we can work towards getting the things you want out of life and living with meaning, fulfillment, and joy. I work with individual adults and couples struggling with anxiety, depression, abuse, addiction, self-esteem issues, life transitions, and more. I have specialized training in helping people recover from trauma. Trauma can have a profound effect on how people view the world and relate to others, which is why a trauma-informed approach to treatment can be very helpful. I will help people heal from their painful and distressing experiences so they are able to feel more safe and secure in the world now. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Vermont and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, and a Doctorate in Psychology from Roosevelt University. I have experience working in private practice, crisis centers, in-patient hospitals, employee assistance programs, community mental health centers, and primary care clinics. Working as a counselor within a myriad of settings and diverse populations for the last 16 years has allowed me to become the therapist that has established a safe, empathetic, and knowledgeable space for you to grow. My clinical expertise includes having worked within juvenile residential and outpatient, adult outpatient, hospital, private practice, and adult correctional settings. This experience has allowed me to work with individuals presenting with life stressors, changes, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, issues related to legal issues/incarceration, trauma, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.
My goal as an international psychologist and clinical social worker is to create safe and empowering spaces for clients by providing culturally intelligent and evidenced-based modalities to a diverse- client population who experience mental health and systemic- issues that may seem universal but are experienced in unique ways. I look forward to working with you to unravel your strengths on this journey to total wellness and freedom to be your purposeful and authentic SELF.
Hello, I am a licensed clinical social worker located in Chicago, Illinois. I work with people who desire a better understanding of who they are, who their authentic self is and integrating that self with their identity structure. I also work with people making life transition(s) and require a caring and listening ear to help guide them through the process. I provide individual, couples and family counseling.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who provides thoughtful, collaborative psychotherapy for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and patterns that may leave them feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves.
My clinical approach is grounded in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe therapy should create space not only to address what you are feeling, but also to understand what may be happening beneath the surface. I help clients explore how past relationships, experiences, beliefs, and emotional patterns may influence the way they think, feel, relate, and respond in the present.
While symptom relief matters, I do not believe therapy should focus on symptoms alone. I work with clients to understand the meaning behind their experiences while also using practical CBT strategies to identify unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier responses, and strengthen coping skills.
My therapeutic style is conversational, reflective, supportive, and insight-oriented. Sessions provide space to slow down, think openly, make connections, and better understand yourself without feeling pressured to have everything figured out.
I especially enjoy working with adults who are functioning in their daily lives but recognize that something feels unresolved, overwhelming, repetitive, or out of alignment. Therapy becomes a place to explore what is happening, understand yourself more deeply, and make intentional changes that support greater emotional well-being and a more fulfilling life.
