Hello. My name is Laura Sollenberger and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois. I am also a Fellow in Thanatology (FT), which is the specialty counseling focus on dying and bereavement. I graduated from Bradley University with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have clinical experience in private practice, not-for-profit and hospital and hospice settings.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

While I hold specialty credentials in the area of grief and loss, I have 30 years of experience helping clients with a variety of issues when life becomes challenging. I have had the honor of companioning people through some of the hardest, most vulnerable times of their lives. I can help you with relationship concerns, parenting, adjustment to health and life circumstance changes, compassion fatigue, career motivation, grief and loss, and personal growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We all have beliefs that shape our experiences and drive out behavior. Sometimes, these beliefs are maladaptive or no longer useful for clients. I work to help my clients challenge these beliefs resulting in different, more favorable outcomes.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Pausing to reflect on a thought, a sensation, your environment, can greatly influence your experience of crisis or stress. I teach my clients techniques to function in the present moment with openness and self-acceptance.

Strength-Based

You are in charge of your happiness and enjoyment of life. You have innate strengths that and abilities that can help you overcome life challenges. I help my clients identify these resilience traits and positive qualities and apply them to behaviors to drive life changes.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Rather than viewing my clients as inherently flawed, with problematic behaviors and thoughts that require treatment, I believe that each client has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change. i meet my clients where they are - wherever they are in their personal journey. I provide a safe, empathic space for my clients to grow and change.

Grief Therapy

I hold specialized designation in the field of Thanatology, which is the therapeutic study of death, dying and bereavement. I have three decades of experience companioning my clients through all types of losses, helping them find hope and joy in living again.
