I have found that many people enter therapy not because of a complex mental health issue but because of a general feeling of life not being what they would like it to be. I've been there. Many years ago I embarked on my own personal growth journey and I believe that has made me a more compassionate, empathic therapist.
I am very active in the therapeutic process and give direct feedback and suggestions for implementing lifestyle changes.
I have been a therapist for over 30 years, specializing primarily in depression/anxiety, relationship issues, and addiction/alcoholism. I believe that pain shared is pain lessened and that people can and do recover from issues that have been troubling them for years. I work with individuals and couples. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach.
Think you're ready to start making the changes that you've been thinking about for quite some time? Call me. Let's talk about it. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
I want to meet a client where they are at, therefore where one wants to start. I am genuine and authentic and want to assist someone to get the help and resources they may need to be and feel better as a person overall. Hiram Kirkendall is a U.S Army veteran. Client's who are stuck or at risk and need to make positive changes in their life are the clients that I help the most. Clients will learn skills to make positive changes. Clients who are stuck will learn to remove the anchors from their live. Clients will learn to be forward thinking instead of living in the past. I have a master degree from Chicago state. I have practiced as mental health counselor since 2012.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who provides thoughtful, collaborative psychotherapy for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and patterns that may leave them feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves.
My clinical approach is grounded in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe therapy should create space not only to address what you are feeling, but also to understand what may be happening beneath the surface. I help clients explore how past relationships, experiences, beliefs, and emotional patterns may influence the way they think, feel, relate, and respond in the present.
While symptom relief matters, I do not believe therapy should focus on symptoms alone. I work with clients to understand the meaning behind their experiences while also using practical CBT strategies to identify unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier responses, and strengthen coping skills.
My therapeutic style is conversational, reflective, supportive, and insight-oriented. Sessions provide space to slow down, think openly, make connections, and better understand yourself without feeling pressured to have everything figured out.
I especially enjoy working with adults who are functioning in their daily lives but recognize that something feels unresolved, overwhelming, repetitive, or out of alignment. Therapy becomes a place to explore what is happening, understand yourself more deeply, and make intentional changes that support greater emotional well-being and a more fulfilling life.
Welcome! I'm Douglas and I would appreciate the opportunity to help you get on track and stay on track.
You want to be heard. You want to be understood. You want to be respected. You want someone on your side to help you in your life journey. You are always my priority.
Research tells us that the top predictor of excellent clinical outcomes is therapeutic rapport. Hello, I'm Tracey.
"Relationships often die not because of conversations that were had but rather conversations that were never had," (Lysa Terkeurst).
Communication is the #1 most reported reason for couples to enter therapy. It is the "appropriate" way of saying, "he doesn't listen to me," and "all she wants to do is talk and talk, {nag}" or giving each other what I refer to as the "non-verbal abuse" {silent treatment}. It means I don't know my partner, or we can't talk without fighting. Yet almost every couple starts off communicating at some level. I mean, come on--you and your partner would not be a couple if the first date involved playing the "Staring contest" where the first one to blink loses.
What we fail to recognize is that Communication is a form of Intimacy. And all other forms on intimacy hinge on protecting the communicative intimacy. So, what is that and how do I get some before we leave each other?
Communicative intimacy refers to the deep emotional and relational closeness that develops through communication, where individuals feel understood, valued, and connected on a personal level. It is both a feeling and a process shaped by how people interact, listen, and respond to each other. It involves an aligned commitment to taking care of it and protecting it. So, time's a wasting and you both are out of options. You both need to commit to starting this before you commit to ending.

I strive to create a warm, validating space where you can understand yourself more clearly and move toward the life you want.
I tend to thrive in crisis. Ideal with the toughest cases of trauma, shootings, cults abductions, and domestic violence. I have been able to help so many veterans as well over the past 12+ years in my positions with US Service Animals, Simple, Practice, Grow Therapy and other telehealth platforms. Make such a difference for so many people because of the comfort that is brought by being able to open up in an environment you know is safe, your own home/space. I take a solutions focused and a client centered approach. I am also insight oriented. I have a lot of insight when it comes to dealing with physical pain and disabilities as I have a visual disability since very young and suffered a TBI at age 24. I like to focus on what issues you are having and come up with coping mechanisms that will work for you. Dealing with the struggles I have had throughout my life has helped me work with people and develop creative and effective coping mechanisms for their specific issues. I have now lived and worked in several states with varying cultures and have benefited from all of these experiences. I have spent a lot of time in a hospital and work well with nurses and medical professionals as well. Please reach out if you think I can help and I will meet you where you are and see where we can go from here.
As a provider, I bring a compassionate, down-to-earth approach to counseling, rooted in my own experiences as a wife, mother to two wonderful children, and lover of animals. I understand the challenges of balancing family life, personal growth, and the stresses that come with both. I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Master's degree in Social Work and currently work full-time as a school social worker, where I have the privilege of supporting students through life's challenges. My passion for helping others extends beyond the school setting, which is why I am excited to offer supportive online counseling with the goal of eventually opening an in-person practice to further serve my community.
In my free time, I enjoy watching my children play sports and spending time outdoors during the summer months. However, I also love cozying up indoors with a good book or favorite TV show. These personal interests help me relate to the balance of work, family, and self-care that many clients face. I am eager to expand my work from the school environment into the broader community, offering a safe, supportive space where individuals can explore their challenges and grow towards a healthier, more fulfilling life.
