Hi, I’m Emmarose Schmitt! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Certified Addictions-Informed Mental Health Professional (CAIMHP) with experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. With training in trauma, grief, mood disorders, and substance use, I take a compassionate and tailored approach to care. Additionally, I have experience working with individuals and families in the foster care system and am deeply committed to reducing systemic barriers to mental health services for vulnerable populations. Starting therapy is a courageous step—one that reflects self-awareness, strength, and a commitment to growth. I’m here to support you in building on your strengths, processing your experiences, reframing unhelpful thought patterns, and setting meaningful goals that align with your needs.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other! We’ll review what brings you to therapy, start exploring your goals, and discuss any relevant history that may help guide our work together. I’ll also answer any questions you have about the process. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to—this session is about seeing if we're a good fit, and starting to build the foundation for a collaborative and enriching therapeutic experience. Sessions with me offer a person-centered environment for self-reflection, emotional processing, and personal growth. Together, we’ll explore patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and relationships to help you gain insight, increase resilience, and develop practical strategies for navigating life’s challenges. My goal is for you to walk away with a greater sense of clarity, confidence, and the tools to foster meaningful change both in and outside of therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I strive to create a warm, active, and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients feel accepted and heard. My approach is collaborative—I work alongside my clients to build on their strengths, foster resilience, and support meaningful, lasting change. Therapy should be a process that moves at your pace, ensuring you feel empowered and validated every step of the way.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am currently accepting adult clients (18+). I specialize in supporting individuals navigating a variety of challenges, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, panic, life transitions, grief, and relational conflict. I can help you develop healthier thinking patterns, increased self-compassion and acceptance, stronger interpersonal skills, and positive coping strategies. My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, compassion-focused, and psychodynamic. I integrate evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), behavioral activation, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused brief therapy to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to support my clients in accepting their thoughts and feelings rather than struggling against them or entangling them with their identity, while committing to actions aligned with their values.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help my client's restructure unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and self-talk patterns so they can develop balanced ways of thinking, more neutral perspectives, and healthier behavior-mood patterns.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize DBT skill building to equip my clients with mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills to effectively navigate strong emotions and forge healthier relationships with themselves and others.

Compassion Focused

I apply compassion-focused therapy to support clients in building self-compassion and an understanding of how the mind and body respond to threat, to reduce shame, self-criticism and scrutiny, and hypervigilance.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I employ CPT to support client's in addressing and resolving how their traumatic experiences have impacted their lives, relationships, world view, and reactions.
