New to Grow
Hi, I'm Hilary Schroeder, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker born and raised in Santa Barbara. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California. I value connection, authenticity, and creating a space where clients feel genuinely heard and supported. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my two pups, traveling, and beings with friends and family. In therapy, I strive to meet clients with empathy, curiosity, and compassion while helping them navigate life's challenges, transitions, relationships, anxiety, stress, and personal growth. My goal is to provide a supportive and collaborative environment where clients can feel comfortable being themselves and work toward a meaningful change.
In our first session, we will focus on getting to know each other and understanding what brings you to therapy. This is a space where you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. I'll ask you to share a little about what has been going on in your life, what you are hoping to get out of therapy, and any goals you may have. I may ask some question to better understand your background, current challenges, and how I can best support you. We will also go over how I work, answer any questions you might have, and make sure you feel comfortable moving forward. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and with a sense of what working together could look like.
I have many years of experience working in an ICU, where I support patients and families through some of life's most challenging and unexpected moments. My work centers around helping people navigate grief, serious and chronic medical diagnoses, trauma, anxiety, and major life transitions with compassion and clarity. In addition to hospital work, I have experience providing therapy to individuals facing a wide range of emotional and life stressors. This allows me to support clients both in times of crisis and in navigating everyday challenges. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded. I draw from a variety of evidence-based practices and tailor sessions to each individual's needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we will focus on understanding your experiences, building insight, and finding practical ways to move forward.
I would love to work with young professionals, career changes, those struggling with burnout, the "sandwich generation" - caring for kids and parents, others going through a medical crisis or a new diagnosis, chronic disease, death/dying, grief/bereavement, trauma. I am able to touch on a lot of this while working in the ICU and I being able to experience so much there has shown me which clients I am best at serving!
