Welcome! I’m Dr. La Toshia Palmer, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Beyond Greatness Global. I provide compassionate, culturally responsive therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, creating a supportive space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to grow. My therapeutic approach is strengths-based, person-centered, and tailored to each client’s unique needs, experiences, and goals. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and practical coping-skills development. I also offer Faith-Based Counseling for clients who desire to integrate their Christian faith, spiritual values, prayer, and biblical principles into the therapeutic process.

With a background in clinical social work, educational leadership, and behavioral health systems, I bring a holistic lens that integrates emotional, environmental, and systemic factors into the therapeutic process.

I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, anger and emotional regulation challenges, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, relationship difficulties, and other experiences that can affect emotional well-being and daily functioning. When working with children and adolescents, I strive to make therapy engaging, developmentally appropriate, and practical while strengthening emotional awareness, communication, coping, and problem-solving skills. I believe therapy is a collaborative process. Together, we explore your experiences, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, recognize your strengths, and develop practical strategies that support meaningful change. At the heart of my practice is the belief that every person has the capacity for growth. My goal is to provide a safe, encouraging environment where you can gain insight, build resilience, strengthen confidence, and move toward greater emotional well-being and purpose.

First session

During our first session, we will begin by establishing a safe, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. Building rapport is an important part of the process, and I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and respected. We will then move into a comprehensive intake process, where I will gather relevant background information, including your current concerns, emotional experiences, and any factors that may be impacting your well-being. Together, we will explore your goals for therapy and identify what meaningful progress looks like for you. Using this information, we will begin to collaboratively develop a personalized treatment plan that is aligned with your needs, strengths, and desired outcomes. My approach integrates psychoeducation and skill-building strategies to support emotional regulation, self-awareness, and resilience. In ongoing sessions, we will regularly revisit your goals, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed. The goal of our work together is to equip you with the tools, insight, and confidence to manage challenges independently and sustain your growth beyond therapy.

Strengths

My greatest strengths as a therapist lie in my ability to combine clinical expertise, psychoeducation, culturally responsive care, and practical skill-building to support meaningful and lasting change. I work with children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, anger and emotional regulation challenges, life transitions, stress, self-esteem concerns, and relationship difficulties. My approach is strengths-based, person-centered, and collaborative. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and coping-skills development. I also offer Faith-Based Counseling for clients who desire to integrate their Christian faith, spiritual values, prayer, and biblical principles into therapy. What distinguishes my work is my ability to help clients understand not only what they are experiencing, but also the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and environmental factors that may be influencing their well-being. With a professional background spanning clinical social work, behavioral health, education, and educational leadership, I bring a holistic perspective to the therapeutic process. My approach is structured while remaining compassionate and individualized. Together, we establish meaningful goals, identify strengths and barriers, develop effective coping strategies, and recognize progress along the way. I want clients to leave therapy with practical tools they can use in everyday life, not simply insight into their challenges. Above all, I am committed to creating a safe, respectful, and culturally responsive environment where clients feel heard and valued. My goal is to help clients build greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, confidence, and the skills needed to create and sustain meaningful change.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve students and young adults of color, particularly those from historically marginalized communities, who are navigating challenges related to anxiety, depression, and anger. Many of the individuals I work with may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or impacted by stressors connected to school, identity, relationships, or systemic barriers, and are seeking a space where they feel seen, heard, and supported. My approach is rooted in psychoeducation and empowerment, helping clients better understand their emotions, build healthy coping strategies, and strengthen their confidence and resilience. I am especially committed to supporting individuals who are working toward healing, developing a stronger sense of identity and belonging, and creating pathways toward personal, academic, and long-term success.

Treatment methods

Psychoeducation

I have experience in providing psychoeducation to help children and adolescent individual clients understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so they can better manage challenges related to anxiety, depression, and anger. I provides practical knowledge, tools, and strategies that empower children and adolescents to recognize what they’re experiencing, build healthy coping skills, and make informed choices that support their well-being and success.

Faith based therapy

I use Faith-Based Therapy to support clients who desire to integrate their Christian faith, spiritual beliefs, and values into the therapeutic process. When aligned with the client's preferences and treatment goals, I incorporate faith-based perspectives alongside evidence-based therapeutic interventions to help clients explore emotional concerns, strengthen coping skills, develop greater self-awareness, and identify sources of hope, meaning, purpose, and resilience. Faith-based interventions may include exploring the client's relationship with God, spiritual values, prayer and other faith-based coping practices, forgiveness, purpose, grief, relationships, and how their beliefs influence thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and decision-making. The level of faith integration is guided by the client's needs, preferences, and therapeutic goals.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns, explore healthier perspectives, and practice coping and problem-solving skills that clients can apply to anxiety, depression, anger, stress, and everyday challenges.

She has a very authentic and grounding style. She gives me coping mechanisms that genuinely help me calm down and think clearly before I get angry. Each week we work through topics that help me grow emotionally and personally, and I can feel the difference in my maturity. She’s supportive, honest, and truly cares about my progress.
