You wake up worried about the day ahead before you even get out of bed. At work, you're scared of making mistakes, it feels like everyone's waiting for you to mess up. When friends invite you out, you say “yes” but inside, you're nervous about going. At home, instead of relaxing, you keep thinking about awkward things you said or did, wondering what kind of impression you left on everyone. It feels like your brain won't turn off these thoughts that make you feel not good enough, and it's exhausting. These anxious thoughts are undercutting your confidence and affecting both your professional and personal relationships.

My practice is located in Portland, Texas. Much of my work focuses on trauma. This ranges from car accidents, to childhood trauma, to abusive relationships, combat veterans and PTSD. I respect my client's opinions on their treatment and work closely with them in treatment planning. I love it when clients share resources with me that have helped them outside of sessions, whether that be podcasts, books, etc. I work to incorporate these things into treatment. I'm very skilled at meeting a client where he or she is at, and I have a talent for coaching clients through the difficult parts of treatment to continue making progress and not become "stuck."

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I specialize in working with individuals of all ages. I have found that online therapy for adults is effective, convenient and the post pandemic way to obtain therapy. I am solution focused, and I practice the client centered approach theory. My background is in secondary education and school counseling, for 27 years. I have had my counseling license for 12 years. I am currently a part-time, private counselor, using online with adult clients and in person, for youth, through non-profit, school programs. I earned an A.A. in Historical Studies from San Jacinto College, Central Campus, La Porte, Texas, June of 1991. I earned my B.A. in Secondary Social Studies from the University of Houston, Clearlake Campus, in Houston, Texas in June of 1994. And I earned my M.Ed. from University of Texas State in San Marcos, in December of 2010. I later added my license in Professional Counseling, in April of 2011. I am interested in the ways trauma impacts the individual and plan to be trained in EMDR, within the year. I am empathetic to the challenge that real life experiences bring and the need to heal and evolve from the times in our lives when we have lived predominately in our shadow side. I am a non-judgmental listener; I help my clients process their hurt and I inspire them to move towards best version of themselves. I find the key components to a therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client is the foundation of trust, honesty, transparency and non-judgmental listening and reflection. I believe that everyone has a purpose, life lessons that they work through and opportunities to heal, transform and evolve emotionally, spiritually and mentally.

Hello, I am glad you took the time to read my biography. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has a heart for people who are looking for empowerment and growth. I personally know what this feels like and how difficult it can be. I was blessed to have people in my life to help me during my "trying times." Honestly, I still do. I am Bi-lingual, (Spanish) and have been practicing for 13 years. I have worked with teenagers, adults, and couples. I do not work with children due to my lack of training. My experience entails working with addictions and various disorders. I believe in both therapy and medication and am cultural competent to utilize as resources. My heart is working with trauma and am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe that my job is to have my clients get to the point where they are no longer needing my services. That's right, to get myself fired! I believe that we were created in the image of the Creator which means the ability to love and be loved and to have the freedom to make wise decisions which help navigate us through this journey we are on. Thank you again for reading my biography. I wish you the freedom you are looking for and believe YOU ARE WORTH IT!

I am a second career social worker, who graduated with my MSW in 2014 and my Ph.D. in 2019, both from the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, but have lived in the Houston area for 30+ years. I decided to become a social worker because of my personal experiences raising a child with behavioral health issues and experiencing profound loss following the sudden death of my husband. My goals were to help others the way my own family had been helped, but I also hoped to improve the experiences of others with similar lived experiences but less positive outcomes. I have worked in a variety of settings, including West Oaks Hospital (a specialty psychiatric hospital) and its affiliated outpatient settings, where I provided individual, group, and family therapy to adults and adolescents experiencing significant mental health crises. I have also worked in home hospice care, assisting individuals and families with both pre-bereavement and post-bereavement support, and where I facilitated online support groups for caregivers and for individuals experiencing grief and bereavement. In addition to my private practice, I am an adjunct professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work, and I frequently consult with immigration lawyers about the ways in which mental health issues may impact the path to asylum or citizenship. I practice with a trauma-informed style and am always conscious of the ways in which trauma impacts the lives and experiences of individuals in all walks of life. I have experience working with people who live with ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, and mood disorders generally. My goal is always to support my clients in achieving their own goals for a happier and healthier life.

Some of the areas where I have the most experience are depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and grief and loss. I work with almost all age groups however, I typically do not work with persons under the age of 18. If you are a minor, please consult with me before scheduling an intake and I will consider your need and my areas of expertise and help you determine our next steps. I am also no longer able to accommodate couples therapy. If you are seeking a couples therapy session I will be happy to assist you with a referral. I have spent the majority of my career working in a University setting and have helped many college-age adults make meaningful changes. I have also worked in behavioral health clinics and have experience working with clients that have been legally referred to therapy.

"Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in our soul, and sings the tunes without the words, and never stops at all." Emily Dickinson "As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I bring a wealth of therapeutic expertise and an unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families on their unique journeys. I view counseling as a collaborative, confidential partnership where my primary role is to provide an empathetic and non-judgmental space for exploration and growth. I employ a diverse array of therapy models and strategies, but I also recognize the immense power of simply listening and understanding. Together, we will delve into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, exploring their impact on both your personal well-being and your relationships with others. My approach is action-oriented and empathetic, geared towards identifying practical solutions for your current challenges, ultimately enhancing your outlook and circumstances. I understand that seeking counseling can be intimidating, and I want to assure you that my focus is not on judgment but on helping you resolve issues and make choices that align with your goals for a more fulfilling life. Sometimes, this may involve gentle challenges to facilitate personal growth, always rooted in a foundation of respect and empathy."

Are you searching for someone to listen to you? For many years, I have heard over and over, “Thank you, I have just been wanting someone to listen to me”. I have always felt led to just sit and listen when someone opens up and spills their heart to me. I have been a licensed social worker for 30 years, working with clients in healthcare settings and case management. I have also been a licensed professional counselor for the last 5 years. I have worked with the senior population in skilled, nursing, private homes, and inpatient physical rehabilitation for 30 years. This brought me to not only work directly with the senior population, but also their family members to provide the love and support needed to get through life's challenges and circumstances. I have gained experience in helping work through stress, anxiety, depression, family dynamics, job loss, marital problems, physical limitations, and/or disabilities, as well as long-term life-altering situations. These situations brought me to work with adults of all ages due to the circumstances affecting relationships with family and friends. I am a wife, a mother of two young adult children, a mother-in-law, a sister, and a daughter myself. I understand and know how family dynamics affect an individual’s physical and emotional health in all aspects of their daily lives. I am trauma-informed. I understand and realize that traumatic events (no matter when they happened in life) can follow us down the road when we don't even realize it is happening. Once a client is educated regarding how trauma affects brain function, they are more able to realize the power they have to make positive change in their lives, where before they may have felt stuck or powerless.

Hello! My name is Guadalupe, I am a Catholic Licensed Professional Counselor who has experience working with diverse populations. My approach to therapy entails collaborating with you as an individual and working together to navigate towards the root of the issue. During our sessions, you are in control – we will only go as far as you are willing to. However, as your therapist, it will be my duty to carefully prod and inquire in certain instances to help you in your healing process. This may sound uncomfortable, even scary, but I hope you learn how discomfort may bring changes to your emotional stability, general happiness, and overall mental state. If you have come this far to search for a therapist then there is a part of you that is conscious of a living experience absent of these burdens: it is that same part that believes and hopes on that version of you. Consider then listening to that inner voice that is yearning to be known. ¡Hola!

Hi, my name is Cara. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with more than 26 years experience providing individual therapy. I received a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1995, and a master's degree in 1997, in counseling and educational psychology from Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi. I have had a private practice since 2005, while also working in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient mental health and rehabilitation facilities, correctional facilities and university counseling centers. I am licensed to see clients, all over the State of Texas, through a HIPAA-compliant confidential video link, a very convenient way to get therapy. The hardest step to take is that first step.
