My yearss of experiencee have allowed me the ability to assist those individuals with maximizing their quality of life by learning skills to assist them with being able to function at their best capacity. As a clinician, I specialize in treating those effected by trauma and complex trauma.
Therapy doesn’t have to be sitting on a couch while someone asks, “And how does that make you feel?” every five minutes. Life is complicated. Sometimes you’re anxious, overwhelmed, pissed off, exhausted, stuck in your head, dealing with trauma, struggling in a relationship, or just wondering how everyone else seems to have their shit together when you definitely do not. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can actually be yourself. No judgment. No pretending everything is fine. No having to make your problems sound “bad enough” to deserve help. You can show up as you are.
I have more than three decades of personal and school counseling experience to share with my clients. I have worked in both private and Catholic schools. I have been a private therapist for eight years. I am also the proud mother of four adult sons. My life story includes some personal and professional obstacles, and I draw on these experiences to help my clients.
I am especially empathetic to clients with physical challenges, as I cope with a partial hearing loss. This helps me serve clients with physical disabilities in addition to a wide variety of mental health challenges.
I am privileged to serve anyone, but I have found my skills are particularly effective with children, teens, college students, and young adults who are navigating transitions, confidence, motivation or emotional challenges. I humbly believe my compassion and empathy are particularly helpful to this age group.
Let’s begin today and take this journey together as you explore who you are and what you need to feel whole. My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and client-centered. We will work as a team to build on your strengths, develop effective coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. This is a safe space for growth, insight, and transformation, where we can process challenges and move toward a healthier, more fulfilling life—one step and one day at a time.
Hello, I’m A.J., a Licensed Master Level Social Worker from the U.P. of Michigan. Faith, Family, and Fellowship are things that I strive to live for daily. My faith is very important to me. I am involved in Men’s Ministry inside and outside of my church. Haggai 2:9 is a verse that is close to my family's heart: “The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house, says the Lord Almighty, in this place I will grant peace, declares the Lord Almighty.” My goal and prayer is that I can help individuals move into a better place than they were when therapy first began. My wife and I have three boys and one grandson. Our family enjoys spending time outside on our 20-acre property “Creation Acres” or getting away camping. My boys and I enjoy spending time in the woods or on the lake.
I graduated from Ferris State University in 2018 with my Master’s Degree in Social Work after attending Lake Superior State University completing Criminal Justice / Public Safety Emphasis Bachelor’s Degree and a Paramedic Technology Associate’s Degree in 2008. I have experience working directly with law enforcement as a dispatcher and working in the public safety field as a fire fighter and as an EMT. I currently work for the Michigan Department of Corrections as a mental health specialist. I look forward to working with you during your journey.
