New York has been my hometown until I recently moved to Florida, where I am officially licensed to practice therapy. I have been a licensed social worker for the last 35 years in New York, Michigan, North Dakota and now Florida. My decades of psychoanalytic/psychodynamic training has provided me with an effective treatment technique that has helped many people throughout my career. Most of my clients present with symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic attacks, work/home/partner/relationship problems, binge-eating disorder, and parenting issues.
There will be a basic inquiry into your family and work history, a few questions, such as: have you ever been in therapy before? What worked, what didn't; why are you seeking therapy at this time (did something different happen?); what would you like from the therapy. You can answer as much or as little as you like.
I believe my biggest strengths are my ability to assess, understand, and treat a person's problems, empathize and show compassion, offer tools necessary to improve a person's growth and well-being, and provide the right feelings to meet a person's maturational needs. Maturational needs are the needs that often go unmet in childhood for various reasons.
I especially enjoy treating ages 18-80, individuals and couples, who are interested in feeling better, learning about themselves and others, and improving the quality of their lives.
My treatment approach is based upon the therapeutic relationship. I will also incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques and other forms of treatment as needed. Each person is different, therefore, I will individualize my approach and technique according to your needs.
