My name is Denise and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I began my adult life as a high school drop-out. After earning my GED, I went on to earn an Associates in Early Childhood Education and an Associates in Human Services. I became a therapist because I had difficulty finding my own therapist I felt comfortable opening up to and thought, maybe, I could be that person for someone else who was struggling to find the right therapeutic fit. I'm an aging punk rocker with tattoos, piercings, and a minor in Philosophy. I'm accepting, patient, and a little sarcastic. I want to meet you where you are and am not here to lecture you on what you are or aren't doing in your life - I promise you, I'm not perfect either. I look forward to you bringing your whole authentic self to each session, no matter what that looks like.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 13 years of experience, and my first priority is creating an environment where you feel safe enough to share the hard things without fear of judgment. I bring warmth, curiosity, and compassion into the therapy space, and I am willing to sit with you in the complicated and sometimes messy parts of your story.
I work with adults experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship patterns, identity and self-esteem concerns, women’s issues, and neurodivergence. I am especially passionate about the intersection of trauma, identity, faith, culture, and neurodivergence, as well as combating mental health stigma within marginalized and underserved communities.
My approach is humanistic, relational, and trauma-informed, drawing from attachment, psychodynamic, family systems, and practical skills-based therapies. I see you as the expert on your life, while I help you recognize patterns, understand how your experiences have shaped you, and identify meaningful paths forward. My hope is that you leave therapy not only feeling better, but understanding yourself better, with greater compassion for who you have been and greater freedom to choose who you want to become.
As a BIPOC therapist, I welcome conversations about culture, race, identity, and racial trauma without minimizing their impact. I also welcome conversations about faith and spirituality when they are meaningful to you. Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with my husband, singing, traveling, fashion, trying new restaurants, and finding creative outlets whenever I can.
Welcome! I'm Sarah! Your story matters. You have value. I don't want you to walk through this pain alone.
I work with females who want to work on anxiety, people-pleasing, insecure attachment, emotional regulation, perfectionism, communication, setting boundaries, grief, comparison, self-compassion, shame, building confidence, divorce, health struggles, relational concerns, navigating breakups, practicing self-care, and building a healthy relationship with yourself and others. Whatever is hurting or aching must be tended to. I am a warm, Christian therapist who focuses on creating a space where you can share the painful parts of your story as well as feel supported through practical tools and new perspectives to move forward.
In the first few minutes of each session, I teach a tool. These tools have been extremely helpful for me and my clients, so I am passionate to share them and find my clients make more progress! Then I check in with you on what you would like to process for that day. After you share, I focus on processing your feelings and the situation as well as sharing my perspectives and tools. Feel free to reach out to see if I might be a good fit for you!
I grew up in the Cleveland area and then came to Michigan where I completed my Bachelor's degree at Hope College where I studied social work. While in school I completed a field placement working as a probation officer and spent time in Mental Health and Sobriety Treatment Court. After graduation, my now husband and I moved back to Cleveland where I completed my Masters in Social Work with a specialization in Health Studies at Case Western Reserve University. While in school I completed internships with the Cleveland Clinic in their Adolescent Psychiatric Unit as well as an interdisciplinary internship at Care Alliance.
Following graduation, I worked in admissions for psychiatric and detox services for six years. I then wanted to expand my skill set and pursued a position providing therapy to health care employees as an EAP counselor at a local hospital system. I found that I really love the opportunity to get to know my clients and to walk alongside them on their journey.

Stay focused, know your "Why?" And fulfill your purpose. Anxiety, PTSD, and depression are some of the leading reasons people seek therapy. Anxiety, PTSD, and depression can keep people from being able to reach their best potential because they focus on what could go wrong instead of what could go right. Life experiences and circumstances inform anxiety experiences. It is so important to have healthy coping skills to deal with anxiety, PTSD, and depression, so you are not overwhelmed. I would love to help you learn healthy coping skills to effectively get through struggles you may be going through. Your "someday I will work on reducing my anxiety" can start today by booking your first therapy appointment to gain healthy coping skills.
I work with adults through individual therapy seeking support for everyday challenges such as stress, work-life balance, parenting challenges, relationship concerns, ADHD, emotional regulation. depression, anxiety, PTSD, career goal setting, communication skills, or life transitions to name a few. My approach is solution-focused and action oriented, to help you gain strategies you can begin using right away. I also accept Amazon EAP clients.
For clients who value Christian faith as part of their journey, I also offer the option to incorporate prayer and biblical wisdom into our work together.
Sessions will take place ONLY on the Grow Therapy portal.

Are you feeling stuck and unsure of how to get past symptoms of anxiety, depression or past trauma? It's common to experience mental health-related challenges in life and to get stuck at times. We're not born with a built-in understanding of how to be psychologically healthy, so sometimes it's a good idea to get a little guidance from an unbiased professional. My ideal client is motivated to understand themselves better and to make the necessary adjustments to improve their quality of life.
