I am passionate about helping people navigate life’s ups and downs and discover meaningful, lasting change. I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University in Chicago. I believe the most essential element of therapy is developing a trusting, therapeutic alliance in order to facilitate change. I specialize in integrated treatments for addressing co-occurring disorders, offering genuine compassion, honesty, and humor, along with a trauma informed care approach to treatment. I work independently running a private practice and my experiences include working as an outpatient mental health therapist at Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, serving those struggling with mental health issues as well as psychiatric disorders in the community. I have also provided psychotherapy at Family Guidance Centers, assisting those with substance use and psychiatric disorders after completing my internship with Rosecrance Treatment Center working as a substance abuse counselor.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois with 15 years of professional clinical experience, in schools, community-based, and private practice. I have worked with individuals ranging in age from 3-25. I have very specialized training and experience in helping clients with trauma and abuse, depression, anxiety, motivation, sense of self-worth, and confidence. I'm deeply committed to clients and their desire to heal, improve their quality of life, and/or navigate a difficult time in life. Additionally, I have specific training and experience in supporting women's mental health, young adults, and individuals experiencing challenges related to chronic pain, body image, and interpersonal dynamics. I am very communicative with clients, and always offer to provide resources or materials to support you in between sessions. I do like clients to know that I genuinely love what I do. I was lucky enough to find a career, kind of on accident, that I truly enjoy. I am a strong advocate for my clients, but will challenge you when it is appropriate. I value providing a safe space for clients to allow them to be vulnerable. We all experience difficult periods in our life, unfortunately some more than others. Therapy is one tool that can help you process, understand your thoughts and emotions, and give you the opportunity to be truly heard. Therapy doesn't need to be used as a last resort, I find it incredibly helpful when used preventatively as well. If you choose to try therapy, I would be grateful to be a part of that experience and provide to you tailored therapeutic approaches to best help you. Drawing from extensive clinical experience, I tailor interventions to meet each individual's unique needs, focusing on empowerment, resilience, and holistic well-being. Together, we can work towards transformative personal insights and sustainable emotional wellness.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I believe healing is about more than reducing symptoms—it’s about helping you reconnect with the person you were always meant to be. If you’ve been living in survival mode, carrying the weight of trauma, anxiety, chronic stress, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, know that healing is possible. My goal is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you feel safe, heard, and supported as you move toward lasting emotional wellness. I provide trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy that honors the connection between the mind, body, emotions, and relationships. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, nervous system regulation, somatic practices, and Relational Life Therapy (RLT) for couples. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor treatment to your unique experiences, strengths, values, and goals, recognizing that every healing journey is different. Many of the people I work with have spent years putting everyone else’s needs before their own. They may struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, low self-worth, burnout, unresolved trauma, grief, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Others are navigating difficult relationships, divorce, parenting challenges, or significant life changes and want healthier ways to cope. Together, we’ll identify the patterns that are keeping you stuck and begin creating new ways of thinking, feeling, and responding that support the life you want to build. Our work together will focus on understanding how past experiences continue to influence your present. We’ll explore the beliefs, behaviors, and emotional patterns that developed as protective strategies while learning practical skills to regulate your nervous system, manage stress, improve communication, establish healthy boundaries, strengthen self-trust, and cultivate resilience. My goal is not simply to help you feel better in the moment, but to help you create meaningful, sustainable change that lasts long after therapy ends.

Hey, I’m Amber. I’m so glad you’re here! I know sometimes it can be pretty scary searching for a therapist who helps you feel known and understood. That is the kind of therapist I strive to be. Let me share a little about myself. I’ve been working in the mental health field for over 11 years now. I worked in community mental health for 10 1/2 of those years before deciding to branch into my own private practice. I am now licensed in Illinois and Missouri. I grew up in a very conservative and religious family, even attending seminary, so I do know those beliefs well. It took me until I was 25 to be brave enough to live my authentic self as a gay individual, knowing it would cost me most of my family and friends. It hasn't been easy, but it has been worth it. It is now my desire to be the support for you that I never had as you live your own truth and tell your own story.

I hold a Clinical Psychologist license to practice in Illinois. I completed my doctorate studies at Adler University. My professional experience in treatment spans over 25 years. I believe a person holds the ability to transform their life for the better. I find satisfaction in helping them advance on their path. The following examples show my methods for treating anxiety and depression. The evidence-based treatment method I use for anxiety focuses on individualized symptom-specific approaches that match the client’s needs and personal preferences. The combination of repetitive and irrational thoughts about perceived danger, uncertainty or failure creates distressing mental states which may manifest as negative thought, such as: "I am not good enough" or "something bad will happen" or "I will be fired if I make a mistake." I assist my clients to detect and fight their negative beliefs and thoughts. I guide clients to manage their anxiety symptoms with mindfulness breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation methods. With assigned homework including mindfulness exercises, I guide the client to maintain their progress and self-regulation between sessions. My depression treatment approach matches each client's symptoms, their life history, and their social environment. Depression exists on a spectrum from temporary sadness to persistent and severe Major Depressive Disorder. The maintenance of depression relies on negative thoughts such as “I am worthless” or “Nothing will ever get better.” Our focus will be to identify and modify. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients view their depressive thoughts in a non-judgmental manner to reduce their rumination and emotional distress. By teaching problem solving skills and the practice of mindfulness helps the individual become more aware of their physical tension. Assigning homework guides the individual to improve sleep hygiene, self-care, and build effective coping strategies.

I have found that many people enter therapy not because of a complex mental health issue but because of a general feeling of life not being what they would like it to be. I've been there. Many years ago I embarked on my own personal growth journey and I believe that has made me a more compassionate, empathic therapist. I am very active in the therapeutic process and give direct feedback and suggestions for implementing lifestyle changes. I have been a therapist for over 30 years, specializing primarily in depression/anxiety, relationship issues, and addiction/alcoholism. I believe that pain shared is pain lessened and that people can and do recover from issues that have been troubling them for years. I work with individuals and couples. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach. Think you're ready to start making the changes that you've been thinking about for quite some time? Call me. Let's talk about it. Whether you've never tried therapy before or are considering getting back into it, give yourself a pat on the back for taking this first step! I know how hard it can be to prioritize your own mental health, especially when life gets hectic. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I believe in meeting my clients where they're at and providing them a space each week where they can feel heard, understood, and cared for. I believe therapy shouldn't feel like another chore on your to-do list. It should feel like the "me time" you need (and deserve!) to set down the weight of everything you've been carrying so that you can start feeling like yourself again. Whether you're in the middle of a difficult time or grappling with a past that is holding you back, I will be there with you every step of the way to help get you "unstuck" and back to the life you want to be living.

Relationships Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both partners and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship. Trauma and Healing Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after post-traumatic events. We work together through these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.

I want to hear about preferences for therapy so that I can offer the support you're looking for. I will just listen if that is what would be most helpful. I can also offer solutions and feedback. Each person's needs will be different so we will determine all of your needs together one session at a time. It is about communicating what is working or what is not working and adjusting accordingly.

Congratulations! You have taken the first steps in the journey to your goal(s). I am extremely grateful you are considering me to partner up with. I consider my relationships as instrumental in learning who I am. The relationships that most speak to who I am include being a spouse, father, brother, son, colleague, and friend. My grandparents are deceased. Through these relationships I have learned a great deal.

I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist who genuinely enjoys getting to know the person behind the symptoms. I work with teens and adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, disconnected, or simply not quite like themselves. Sometimes you know exactly what you need help with; other times, you just know something feels off. I’ll meet you wherever you are, without judgment, and we’ll make sense of it together. My style is collaborative, trauma-informed, practical, and compassionate. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can be honest, take a breath, and know that someone is genuinely invested in helping you feel better—not just checking boxes.

Sometimes it feels like the actual apocalypse is just around the corner. We are bombarded with terrible headline after terrible headline. Inflation is making it harder to pay the bills, let alone have fun, or reach our dreams. With so much going on in the world, it’s no wonder that there are greater rates of anxiety and depression! In the midst of it all, you might be trying to figure out who you are, what you want from life, how to have that honest conversation with your friend, setting boundaries with a parent, whether to switch jobs, learning to be more comfortable in your skin, etc. It’s a lot to manage. I can help. I am a licensed psychologist and consider myself a generalist with a wide variety of clinical interests including issues related to family of origin, self esteem, identity development, issues related to oppression and marginalized identities, depression, anxiety, stress, and interpersonal relationships.
