Taylr Hunter
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a deep passion for supporting individuals through life’s most challenging and transformative moments. I earned my BA in Psychology and Counseling from San Francisco State University and went on to receive my MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Throughout my clinical work, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of clients, including those navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, postpartum transitions, court-mandated therapy, and relationship issues. I bring a compassionate, culturally-informed perspective to my practice and strive to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel truly seen and heard. Outside the therapy room, I enjoy traveling, creating art in various forms, and caring for my senior standard Yorkie, who keeps life grounded and joyful. I’m committed to ongoing learning—about people, cultures, and the human experience—as I walk alongside clients on their paths to healing and growth.
First session
In our first session together, we’ll focus on creating a space where you can feel comfortable showing up just as you are. It’s really about beginning to build trust and ensuring that our working relationship feels like a good fit for your needs and goals. We’ll take time to talk about what’s bringing you in, your background, and any mental health history that feels important to share. You don’t need to have all the answers or know exactly where to start—feeling a little nervous or unsure is completely normal. From the beginning, we’ll work together to get a sense of what support looks like for you and how we can move forward in a way that feels helpful and meaningful.
Strengths
What sets me apart as a therapist is my ability to blend compassion, insight, and practical tools to help clients create lasting change. My approach is both warm and direct—rooted in empathy while encouraging honest reflection and growth. Drawing from CBT, DBT, SFBT, Gestalt, and Mindfulness-Based therapies, I tailor each session to meet clients where they are, helping them gain clarity, emotional balance, and confidence. My background—shaped by personal experiences with mental health in my own family and years of clinical work with diverse populations—allows me to connect deeply and authentically. Clients often describe feeling genuinely seen, supported, and empowered to move forward with greater resilience and self-trust.
Ideal clients
My ideal client feels stuck in anxiety, depression, self-doubt, or life transitions and is ready for change, even if unsure where to start. They want a safe, supportive space to feel heard, gain clarity, and develop practical tools for coping and emotional regulation. Their goal is to feel grounded, confident, and empowered—creating lasting growth and a life aligned with their values and purpose.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. Together, we explore the ways internal dialogue shapes emotional experiences and identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Through this collaborative process, clients learn to challenge self-defeating beliefs, develop balanced perspectives, and cultivate the tools needed to respond to life’s challenges with clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to help clients shift attention from problems to possibilities by focusing on their strengths, resilience, and past successes. Together, we explore what’s already working and create practical steps toward the future they envision. This collaborative, empowering approach allows clients to recognize their own capacity for growth and build confidence as they move closer to meaningful, lasting change.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Through this structured yet compassionate approach, clients learn to navigate intense emotions, set healthy boundaries, and cultivate balance between acceptance and change. By building these skills, clients enhance their ability to respond to life’s challenges with resilience, authenticity, and a greater sense of inner stability.
Gestalt
Drawing from Gestalt Therapy, I encourage clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment. This experiential, holistic approach helps clients deepen self-awareness, uncover patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and take ownership of their choices. By bringing mindful attention to the here-and-now—both within themselves and in the therapeutic relationship—clients gain insight, resolve inner conflicts, and move toward greater authenticity and wholeness.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I incorporate Mindfulness-Based Therapy to help clients slow down, tune into their inner experiences, and approach thoughts and emotions with curiosity rather than judgment. This integrative and restorative process fosters emotional balance, self-compassion, and clarity. By learning to observe rather than react, clients cultivate resilience and the ability to respond to stress with calm presence—supporting overall peace and well-being in daily life.
