My name is Kristian Orphey, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) located in Southern California. Over the past 12 years, I have provided direct therapy to individuals who are dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, work-related stress, adjustment issues, trauma, interpersonal problems, and stress. I am a strength-based therapist and approach therapy first and foremost meeting you where you are. I think this is empirical and sets the foundation for a healthy professional alliance.
During our first session, you can expect us to simply get to know one another. This session will be the start of us building rapport with one another and I will ask open-ended questions in order to gain an understanding of what brings you to therapy and what you wish to get out of it.
From a young age, I've always had a desire to obtain a career helping others. I feel I have a purpose to serve, and a passion to help others on their healing journey at whatever phase they may be in life.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked with an array of clients who have experienced grief. I educate clients processing and discussing various forms of grief, which include the loss of a loved one, loss of a relationship, job, significant life change/event, etc. Grief therapy allows for an individual to learn how to cope with their emotions, reactions, and responses.
CBT is a treatment is a commonly known psychotherapy I have used in practice that has allowed for clients to be able to better understanding their thoughts and behavioral patterns and the impact it has on mood and daily life functioning. CBT can help an array of mental health disorder, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and sleep for example.
As a strengths based therapist, I have worked with many clients throughout my practice utilizing Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Within this model, I work with clients on identifying short-term goals given presenting problems that are impacting their day-to-day lives. Additionally, the goal with this treatment model is to help clients focus on solutions to their problems, identify resources, and focus on the future, highlighting strengths.
Interpersonal Therapy is a treatment model I have used the past ten years utilizing with clients who are dealing with conflicts in relationships, challenges developing and maintaining relationships, and life changes. I specifically help clients understand their emotions and how relationships are impacted, identify healthy boundaries, and effective communication styles within interpersonal relationships.
