Rita Onwenna, DNP is an experienced and board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Rita completed her doctorate degree in nursing practice at Walden University. She received her post doctorate certificate as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner from Bradman University. She obtained her master’s degrees in nursing with emphasis in family medicine and school health services from California State University, Long Beach. Rita Onwenna, DNP, has practiced medicine in several different settings, including mental health, internal medicine, women’s health, nephrology, and education. As a lifelong learner, Rita is focused on developing goals and engaging in continuous and purposeful professional growth and development.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
In our first session together, we will start with a brief introduction, then dive into the specific challenges the client is facing. This will enable us to come up with a treatment plan and set a realistic goal.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
Rita Onwenna, DNP understands that an individual is the expert of his or her own life. In addition to working collaboratively with a client to establish an individualized treatment plan, she utilizes evidence-based practice guideline to foster an environment where one can develop skills to manage difficulties and gain insight into unique personal challenges. She utilizes a validated screening tool to diagnose and monitor conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD etc.

Rita Onwenna, DNP is trained in the use of both medication management and psychotherapy. Her goal is to help individuals reach their desired treatment goal. She has experience in treating a range of psychiatric conditions including but not limited to depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, ADHD, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, etc.
Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.
While I have experience in the care of patients across life span, I love working with adolescents. As a practicing credentialed school nurse, I am in the best position to guide them in the resources needed to navigate the school setting to manage their symptoms and improve their education performance.
