(he/him)
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Master’s in Public Health and Nursing, bringing over a decade of diverse healthcare experience. My advanced clinical training from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, along with hands-on expertise in psychiatric care, public health, and education, enables me to provide compassionate, evidence-based mental health services. My work experience includes serving as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, where I provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments, medication management, and individualized treatment plans. I collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care for patients. As an adjunct nursing professor at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, I mentor future healthcare professionals, fostering their academic and clinical growth. Previously, I gained extensive experience as a registered nurse in acute care, behavioral health, and community health settings, including roles at Antelope Valley Medical Center and Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Working in underserved communities has strengthened my commitment to promoting equitable healthcare access. My approach to care is holistic and patient-centered, combining psychiatric expertise with health education to empower individuals on their journey toward wellness.
The initial session is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation lasting 45 to 60 minutes. We begin with brief introductions to establish rapport and foster a client-focused approach. I will ask questions about your mental and physical health history, as well as relevant family background. We will then discuss your symptoms, concerns, and current challenges in detail. Based on this information, I will provide an initial assessment and potential diagnosis. If appropriate, I may recommend baseline laboratory tests, an EKG, or request relevant medical reports to gain a clearer picture of your health. Medication may be prescribed to address your condition, and therapy may be suggested as part of your treatment plan.
As a PMHNP with extensive experience across psychiatric care, acute settings, and community health, I bring a strong clinical foundation, effective communication, and a collaborative approach to my practice. My background in public health and education allows me to provide holistic, compassionate care that empowers clients to navigate and overcome life’s challenges.
My clinical experience spans psychiatric care, public health, and education, with a strong emphasis on holistic, compassionate mental health services. I am well-equipped to support clients facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mood disorders, including those from marginalized or underserved communities. With a background in acute care, behavioral health, and community health, I understand the complex interplay between physical and mental well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients identify and reframe negative thought patterns that contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression. Together, we develop practical tools and coping strategies to build resilience and foster positive change. My goal is to empower patients with skills they can apply in daily life, promoting emotional well-being and personal growth.
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is an essential part of my therapeutic approach. I help patients better understand their mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies, empowering them to take an active role in their healing journey. By providing clear and compassionate information, I equip patients with practical tools for stress management, lifestyle changes, and symptom relief. When appropriate, I involve family members to foster a supportive environment and strengthen recovery. My goal is to help patients feel informed, confident, and empowered in managing their mental health.
