Regardless of our current life or health situation, I believe each day offers opportunities for serenity, peace, and joy. But serious challenges can come up. Illness, addiction, life-transitions, aging, and the stressors of a busy life can block us from experiencing the life we know is possible. Sometimes we need to mourn the loss of what we once had, accept physical reality exactly as it is, and explore new ways of successfully bringing healthy pleasure back into everyday life. In my work with hospice patients, with the homeless, with people facing serious addiction and health challenges, and with those who are overwhelmed by changes or a busy life, I’ve witnessed first hand how anyone can cultivate a sense of contentment even in the midst of major external challenges. With the right practical psychological tools, it's possible to bring a sense of enjoyment back into the routines of daily life. It's not always easy, but it's possible. Often, we have a strong intellectual understanding of our problems, but these problems may continue in the form of anxiety, depression, addiction, or a general dissatisfaction with life. By intentionally monitoring and aligning our thoughts and behaviors, our emotions calm. We come into balance. Through increased awareness and intention, we heal old hurts and begin experiencing more calm and peace - regardless of what's happening out there beyond our control. I began my work as a therapist in 2004 and think of modern psychotherapy as a sacred art that's grounded in the ancient healing and storytelling traditions found throughout the world. I am always profoundly honored to share in the personal discoveries that happen in the therapy room, whether we’re in the same room or miles apart meeting virtually. I’d be honored to take a journey of discovery and healing with you.
