Welcome! My name is Safiya Tormo and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I'm here to support you and help you make progress on your healing journey. I aspire to provide a safe environment where you feel understood and accepted. I work with adults, birth to five, children, adolescents, and families. I utilize a trauma informed and holistic approach that recognizes the mind, body, and spirit connection and I seek to treat the whole person, so that you can make real change.
In our first session, I will do a thorough biopsychosocial assessment, so that I can get a clear picture of the presenting issue, and we will collaborate on a treatment plan that feels good for you. I will also share resources and provide applicable referrals.
My greatest strength is my compassion and my experience in helping people move toward their goals. Time and time again, I've witnessed the beauty of people making profound change when they are provided a safe environment and individualized care, so I believe in the process and I believe in you!
I have experience treating a wide range of issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, parenting, substance use, divorce, grief, and domestic violence. I'm passionate about prevention and early intervention, which has led me to specialize in maternal mental health and early childhood.
I am a rostered Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) provider. I use this in my practice with children birth to five years old to support them and their caregivers after a traumatic or stressful experience. This model support family strengths and relationships, focuses on attachment and healing, and respects family and cultural values.
I'm a trained trauma therapist that understands behavior and symptoms from a trauma lens. It's a shift in perspective from "what's wrong with you?" to "what happened to you?" I use the principals of safety, trustworthiness, peer support and mutual self-help, collaboration, empowerment, and culturally responsive services to guide my work.
I'm certified in Interpersonal Psychotherapy or (IPT) and I often use this model with adolescent and adult clients to improve their relationships and help them get their needs met in an adaptive way.
I have extensive experience providing family therapy to address issues such as attachment, divorce, substance abuse, crisis intervention, grief and loss, and domestic violence.
I'm a registered play therapist (RPT) and I have specialized training in working with children and adolescents and helping children to process their thoughts and feelings through play, sand tray, and art.
