Tammy Jo Rodgers

LCSW (she/her)18 years of experience

Hello. My name is Tammy Jo. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 18+ years of experience as a LSW and LCSW in supporting individuals and families through challenging times. I have experience in treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, and family issues, however, I do not conduct couples counseling. Through a collaborative approach we can work together on YOUR goals! I employ a strengths-based approach, which is straightforward, yet empathetic, focusing on resilience and personal growth.

First session

Starting therapy can bring up a mix of emotions; relief, nervousness, hope, uncertainty. All of that is completely normal. Our first session is primarily an intake session, which means it’s focused on understanding you—your story, your concerns, and what’s bringing you in now. We’ll Talk About: What prompted you to seek therapy at this time, current symptoms or challenges (anxiety, mood changes, stress, relationship concerns, etc.), relevant history (family, relationships, work, significant life events), any prior therapy experiences, your strengths, coping skills, and support systems, and what your goals is for therapy. That may sound like a lot, and it can be, however this is just an initial overview. You are not expected to share everything or have the “perfect” way of explaining your experiences. The intake simply helps me gather foundational information so I can better understand how to support you. Therapy is an ongoing process. We will continue getting to know each other over time, moving at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive for you. You don’t have to tell your entire story in one session. Our work together is collaborative. This first meeting is about building understanding, clarity, and a foundation for the work ahead.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths as an LCSW is my laid-back, open approach. Clients often tell me they feel comfortable with me quickly because I’m warm, genuine, and easy to talk to. I create a space where you don’t have to filter yourself or perform. You can show up exactly as you are. At the same time, I’m not a “nod and smile” therapist. I’m honest. I’m direct. And when needed, I’ll gently challenge you. My goal isn’t just to validate you—it’s to help you grow. That means we’ll look at patterns, call out what may be keeping you stuck, and work toward meaningful change. Therapy with me is collaborative, but it’s also active. Real progress doesn’t only happen in session. It happens in the small choices you make between sessions. I may provide worksheets, reflection prompts, or tools to practice, but I don’t assign “homework” in a rigid way. What you do with those resources is ultimately up to you. You have to be willing to put in the work and also discuss the achievements or stumbling blocks when you come back to session. If you’re looking for a therapist who is warm yet straightforward, supportive but growth-oriented—and who believes you are capable of more than you think—you and I will likely work well together.

Ideal clients

I work best with thoughtful, self-aware adults who are ready to stop just coping and start actually feeling better. Together, we can help you reduce anxiety and overthinking, build healthier boundaries, untangle perfectionism and people-pleasing, strengthen self-trust and confidence. Therapy with me is collaborative, direct, and compassionate. I can assist in understanding the patterns driving your stress and give you practical tools to change them.

Treatment methods

Supportive

I actively work to create a safe therapeutic environment where people can express their feelings and thoughts without judgment. I employ active listening, validation, and encouragement to asssit with self-esteem and adaptive skills. Supportive therapy is particularly beneficial for individuals who may not respond well to other forms of therapy. Supportive therapy is often used when you are faced with significant life challenges.
