I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with over 18 years of experience in mental health and addiction counseling field. I am licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Utah, and Maine. My career has included extensive work with Veterans, Active Duty personnel, and federal employees, providing trauma informed care. I have a background in women's health issues, POTS, EDS / hEDS, MCAS, MCTD, RA, Lupus, perimenopause, and other autoimmune and chronic illnesses that need therapy supports. I specialize in Women's mental health, Recovery, ADHD and supporting neurodivergent adults, LGBTQIA+ individuals, mental health issues due to chronic pain and medical trauma, trauma survivors, addiction, burnout, anxiety, women’s issues, and major life transitions. My approach is nonjudgmental and trauma informed, meeting clients where they are with curiosity and compassion while creating a space for authentic growth and understanding. I value appropriate self disclosure when it supports the therapeutic process and use my training and lived experience to help clients develop tools that genuinely serve them. My work draws from an eclectic foundation that includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Somatic approaches. I also integrate alternative and mind body methods that expand healing beyond traditional talk therapy, supporting both emotional and physiological well-being. I practice from an intersectional perspective, recognizing that our identities; race, gender, sexuality, neurotype, ability, culture, and lived experience intersect to shape how we move through the world and how the world responds to us. Healing requires honoring all of those parts. I believe neurodivergence is not something to be fixed, but understood, supported, and celebrated. Therapy is a space to learn your brain, not fight against it, to understand how it works, and build systems of support that honor your authentic wiring.

I am a bilingual therapist (English & Spanish) that believes therapy should be a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. Reaching out for help takes courage, and you do not have to face life’s challenges alone. I support adults and older adults experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, panic attacks, burnout, chronic stress, grief, chronic pain, and difficult life transitions. I also work with individuals navigating divorce, relationship and marital concerns, family conflict, women’s and men’s issues, caregiving responsibilities, retirement, and adjustments related to medical conditions or changes in health. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who specializes in mental health. I am qualified to work with all ages. I love working with the elderly, couples who suffer from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. I have experience working with the severely mentally ill for more than thirty years. But my passion is the elderly. They do not get the attention they deserve, in my opinion. Considering that they have worked and contributed to society most of their lives.

Greetings to you and all With a wish for good health and peace in your life. My name is Sherby John. I have been working and learning along this journey, we call life, just as you have. It can be a journey filled with joy and struggle. Have you reached a point where it seems there is more struggle than joy or feel stuck in the muck that seems to only get deeper or harder to transgress? Then maybe it is time to find new paths and options by having a guide on this journey. Therapy can be a vehicle for change and development of workable tools to assist in continuing with this journey. Whether you are dealing with Depression, Life changes, Anxiety, Relationships, Trauma, or a new medical or mental health diagnosis, therapy can be a useful mechanism for support, discernment, and information. I would like to provide you with a safe and welcoming environment and space to relieve yourself of these stressors through working on alternatives to current reactions to triggers or stressors in the way of continuing your journey, your way and at your own pace. I firmly believe that every interaction we have in life has an impact on all parties involved, regardless of how insignificant the encounter may seem. Even if the client and I agree or disagree about us being a good fit, we are both changed. We might not notice the change at first, but it's there. I try to bring my 100% to every session, and I hope my clients do the same with the understanding that our 100% changes every day due to life situations. I do share personal experiences with clients if it is appropriate to do so and I feel it would benefit the client. I am a mom of three young children and a wife, so I understand how life can get busy and overwhelming at times. I love to call these times our Life's Storms. We are just getting through the day(s) even if it just barely. By clients choosing to try to continue on even at the hardest points in the Life's Storms, they are braving Life's Storms. This doesn't mean that there aren't times when clients will have thoughts of wanting to just pause life, or run away and start over because that is normal, and coming to counseling to seek help is brave and hard in and of itself.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or past experiences that still affect you today, you don’t have to carry it alone. I work with BIPOC adults ages 18 to 65 who are navigating trauma, self-doubt, and the pressure to always be strong for others. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, respected, and supported. My work is grounded in cultural awareness, compassion, and honesty. I use approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and trauma-informed care, but I focus less on labels and more on what actually helps you feel better in your daily life. Together, we look at patterns that feel stuck and gently challenge the beliefs or experiences that may be holding you back. I take a collaborative and active approach to therapy. That means we work as a team. I will support you at a pace that feels safe, while also encouraging insight, practical tools, and meaningful change that lasts beyond our sessions.

My private practice is dedicated to supporting professional adults in Virginia who value a thoughtful, private, and personalized approach to counseling. I understand that even highly capable and successful individuals can experience periods of stress, transition, uncertainty, or simply feel that something in life needs greater attention and balance. My style is warm, compassionate, and thorough. I take the time to understand you as a whole person—your experiences, responsibilities, relationships, and goals. Our work together is highly individualized, integrating a holistic approach with a concierge-level counseling experience tailored to your unique needs. My journey in the mental health field has been shaped by diverse professional and cultural experiences, including my own time in Corporate America and living and working overseas. These experiences have given me a meaningful understanding of the unique demands professional adults may face while balancing career, relationships, family responsibilities, life transitions, and personal well-being. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in respected clinical and academic settings, including Yale-NUS College in Singapore, HCA Parham Doctors’ Hospital, WellSpan Philhaven Hospital, and White Mountain Apache Tribal Regional Behavioral Health Services in Arizona. These experiences allow me to bring a thoughtful, culturally informed, and individualized perspective to my work. I support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, eating-related concerns, and relationship or interpersonal challenges. Together, we will develop a personalized approach that reflects your needs, goals, and pace—without pressure or judgment. I currently offer in-person and Telehealth appointments with convenient self-scheduling. If you are seeking couples counseling, please contact the office before scheduling your first appointment. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting you along the way.
