Hi, I'm Shelly — a licensed professional counselor with a passion for helping people find their footing when life feels overwhelming. My journey in mental health began decades ago in music therapy, working in psychiatric settings where I first witnessed the remarkable capacity people have to heal when given the right support and a safe space. That foundation shapes the way I work to this day — with attunement, creativity, and a deep belief in each person's capacity to heal. I specialize in anxiety, OCD, trauma, and addiction recovery, using evidence-based approaches including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build real, lasting skills rather than just temporary relief. I have a particular heart for neurodivergent individuals — including those with ADHD and autism — who may have spent years feeling misunderstood. You do fit — sometimes it just takes the right space to discover that. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. Good therapy isn't just about insight — it's about leaving each session with something you can actually use. I'll meet you where you are, move at a pace that feels right, and work hard to make sure our time together is meaningful. For clients who desire it, I welcome the integration of faith and spirituality into our work. I believe healing touches the whole person — mind, heart, and spirit — and that for many people, faith isn't separate from their healing but central to it. I hold that with care and without pressure. Whether you're navigating a specific struggle or carrying a weight you've held for too long, you don't have to do it alone. Reaching out is the hardest step — and I'm really glad you're here. I'd love the opportunity to connect.

These struggles can affect emotional well-being, focus, and overall quality of life—but you don’t have to navigate them alone. I am passionate about supporting children, teens, and adults as they work through life’s challenges and build resilience. Whether you’re managing anxiety, coping with academic or workplace stress, navigating parenting concerns, or working to improve communication and self-worth, my goal is to help you develop practical tools that foster confidence, balance, and emotional well-being. I have over 16 years of experience working with children and families. I specialize working with trauma, depression, and PTSD. I also have experience working with clients who are in crisis, providing immediate support and intervention in times of acute emotional distress. Often times current situations are a symptom of underlying past trauma that permeate our daily lives. We will work together to uncover and confront these issues. In this approach, the development of a preferred solution is more important than clarifying and directly addressing the problem.

I help adults move through anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and life transitions, with an affirming space for neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ clients. Many of the people I work with are in a lot of pain but they "look fine". They feel the weight of the world on their shoulders and they are exhausted from carrying it alone. Pain is a part of life but you don't have to face it by yourself. Therapy can help relieve some of the mental weight you have been shouldering and help you feel more like yourself again. My approach is trauma informed so I focus on helping you feel safe and supported. I pay attention not just to what you are saying but also to how your experiences are showing up in your body, your reactions, and your thoughts. Together, we can work to make sense of what you have been through and how it is impacting you now. I see therapy as a collaborative process. I will meet you without judgment and we will figure out together what feels helpful. If something is not working, we can adjust. If something is working, we can build on it. You do not have to fit yourself into a specific way of doing therapy because we shape the process around you. While I have a lot of experience working with people who have ADHD, ADD, and autism, I don’t provide formal evaluations or prescribe medication. I am also unable to write Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters. Although this platform offers the option for me to utilize AI to take notes, I opt out and will continue to do so. I will not ever utilize AI for your care when given the choice.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Texas. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
