I love working with clients who are interested in creating a positive change in their life, but may be stuck on how to start. As a therapist in private practice, as well as a Yale University trained clinician in evidence based practices, I specialize in helping clients to tackle their goals in small steps to create the change they desire.
My philosophy as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, challenges, and hopes while moving toward meaningful change. Rooted in a person-centered approach, I believe therapy should honor each individual’s unique values and strengths, empowering them to take steps that align with their goals. Together, we work to build resilience, foster growth, and create pathways toward a life that feels purposeful, balanced, and worth living.
As a licensed clinician, I strive to help clients overcome anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma, PTSD, and other mental health concerns. You will develop coping skills, undo unhealthy patterns, identify triggers, and quickly navigate life transitions. I believe you deserve to feel calm, happy, and in charge of your life. Mental health care is essential to your overall well-being and can help you build the life you want.
Even when things look fine on the outside, you might feel anxious, burned out, disconnected, or just not like yourself. Maybe you're facing a major change, experiencing difficult emotions, carrying the weight of chronic stress or health challenges, or dealing with something you can't quite name. Maybe you're just tired of feeling stuck. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, acute and chronic medical conditions, and life transitions. I welcomes into my practice anyone who’s ready to explore what healing might look like for them.
Therapy isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about having a space where you don’t have to pretend. A space where you can exhale, say the hard things out loud, and feel seen. This is the kind of space I strive to create in every session—where you can be real, be heard, and begin to find your way forward.
Are you feeling lost; confused or broken? I have 24 years experience working in crisis intervention; depression; anxiety; grief/loss; divorce; gender identity/gay orientation issues; co-parenting; relational problems; domestic violence issues; trauma; sexual abuse; and career/life transition issues.
I am very laid back and non judgmental. We all have done things we are not proud of, but in order to heal we need to find a way to forgive ourselves and move on.
Do you find yourself constantly worrying or overthinking every possible outcome? Do you feel like you must prepare for the worst just to feel in control? Maybe you struggle with uncertainty, fear making the wrong decision, or feel like everything has to be done perfectly. Anxiety can leave you feeling restless, exhausted, and stuck in patterns that affect your sleep, your relationships, and your peace of mind. Life transitions often bring us into what can feel like “stormy waters.” As Viktor Frankl wrote, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
I specialize in helping those suffering from anxiety, including health care professionals and veterans. You don't have to continue suffering. As a seasoned therapist, I can help you feel empowered to stop the cycle of worry and anxiety, find your sense of purpose, and reclaim your life.
The good news is that we've all gone through seasons of our lives when we feel this way. The first step is to reach out to someone for help. My approach is straightforward: together we will identify your goals, establish a problem-solving treatment plan, and go from there. If something is telling you it's time to begin your journey; give me a call.

As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, LICSW, I bring to the table a wide range of experience and perspectives on life. This is my second career, and I chose it because I strongly believe that I can help individuals improve their quality of life. Depression, anxiety, relationships, career difficulties, life transitions, burnout… these are some of the issues that cause us to lose our equilibrium. To reestablish equilibrium, we will use cognitive behavior therapy, my principle area of expertise. We will look at behaviors that aren’t working for you and replace them with behaviors that improve your daily life.
I believe wholeheartedly in a holistic approach to therapy and foremost is the importance of self-care. You will learn how self-care enhances self-respect, and how important these two factors are for establishing a firm foundation for the new, improved you. And there will be homework assignments each week related to current goals: the harder you work, the greater your progress. You have to be “in it to win it.”
My first career was in business, and I utilize some basic business principles in my psychotherapy, most notably organization skills and the allocation of your inner resources. This has worked well in my psychotherapy with chronic illness clients, with clients in the military, with business executives and retirees, new careerists, and parents, just to name a few.
Are you ready to work hard and bring your best game? I’m ready to work with you and show you how, together, we can build a better path forward. Visit me at http://linkedin.com/in/dturkat to see my unique dual career path and experience.
Please note I specialize in working with individuals and their caregivers on issues surrounding serious illness, fertility/infertility, onco-survivorship, and postpartum support and am accepting new clients with these concerns.
We all have fundamental needs: To belong, to feel understood, to give and receive love, to feel financially secure, to be free from pain. My approach to therapy begins with addressing the impetus that led to scheduling that first appointment, to then addressing core basic needs like sleep, nutrition and social connections. We will work to develop an awareness into emotional states and behaviors that arise out of them. Sometimes, it is the actions of others that are the primary source of our own distress. Even then, we can focus on what is in our control to improve our coping and circumstances.
My Passion lies in helping Clients develop the importance of grounding, practicing mindfulness, being present and finding direction and connecting with purpose in life. My goal is to uplift, encourage and empower clients to identify their "why" and develop skills and strategies in achievinghttps://provider.growtherapy.com/edit-profile/telehealth their objectives. At the heart of most areas of concern lies a foundational need for Self Love and Acceptance.
I welcome you on this journey of self-exploration and in discovering parts of yourself you may not have been aware of previously and learning to integrate what you learn in improving your overall quality of life.
