As a therapist dually licensed in counseling and substance use treatment, I believe every person carries unique strengths, stories, and untapped potential. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your needs, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as CBT, EMDR, DBT, IFS, ACT, Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and practical life-skills development. I’m passionate about helping clients understand how early experiences and relationships shape the way they see themselves, navigate challenges, and connect with others—and I’m continually inspired by the powerful ways therapy, supported by neuroscience, can help the brain and body heal. Outside the therapy room, I find joy in traveling, lifelong learning, reading, and cherishing time with my friends and family. I’m also deeply connected to the mind–body relationship and believe that true healing honors both. And on any given day, you’ll likely hear me mention my love of animals—especially my beloved corgis—who remind me daily of the importance of presence, curiosity, and play.

I’ve spent nearly two decades working in behavioral health, supporting people through trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life challenges. I believe healing happens best in a space where you feel safe, respected, and truly heard. My work is especially grounded in supporting individuals who have felt marginalized or overlooked, and I approach therapy with compassion, curiosity, and care. My style is collaborative and personalized. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor our work to your needs, goals, and pace. I draw from well-researched therapy approaches that focus on building emotional awareness, processing difficult experiences, and strengthening coping skills. Together, we focus on helping you feel more grounded, confident, and empowered as you move forward in your life.

I still love what I do after 26 years. I have extensive experience in Christian Counseling, Addiction, PTSD, Trauma, Sex-Offenders, and Obsessive-Compulsive behaviors. I currently am NOT providing therapy for couples or families. I have worked with a variety of clients ranging from ages 7 to 89, but am currently only working with adults. I am independently licensed in 3 different states as a Marriage and Family Therapist and independently licensed in 1 state as an Addiction Counselor. I believe everyone has a "gift," something that they are called to do, and Counseling is mine. I care about my clients and have the innate ability to "zone" in on what is going on with them. I use Emotional Focus Therapy, Strength-Based, Trauma-Informed, Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but it really depends on the clients I am seeing. I admire anyone who wants to make a change and is willing to reach out and ask for help. I am here for you if you are that person. **** It's very important to remember to provide a 24-hour notice or a minimum of 2 hours (if an emergency comes up) notice if you are not going to make your session, so that you are not charged a no-show fee. ****** I am only accepting individual clients at this time. Although the appointment planner may allow it, please do not schedule appointments more than 2 weeks out. My later times are limited and I would like all my clients to have a chance to one of these slots, plus it cuts back on no-shows since we do not know if we will be able to make an appointment that far in advance. Thank you for your understanding.

Have you been feeling little or no enjoyment in the things that used to bring you joy? Do you feel stuck in negative thought patterns or easily irritated? Maybe you are longing for close relationships with others, but once conflict arises or someone begins to be vulnerable, you become scared, which in turn leads you to pull away from those you love. My aim is to join with you in your therapeutic journey and merely facilitate the process of healing, as I believe each person has the potential and strength within them to overcome whatever adversity they have experienced. I look forward to knowing and understanding each person’s heart, as there is so much beauty, victory, and joy waiting to be unlocked within you all!

Hi, I’m Dr. Sara E. Ratliff, a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker and board-approved clinical supervisor with over 16 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families thrive. I earned my Doctorate in Behavioral Health from Arizona State University and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California, where I focused on children and families. I hold unrestricted clinical licenses in Illinois, Arizona, and Maryland (LCSW & LCSW-C), which allows me to work with clients across diverse communities. Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of settings—from supporting people overcoming substance use and reentry challenges, to guiding children and families through international adoption programs, to providing clinical care for Active Duty service members, retirees, and their families. My experience spans family systems, relationships, stress management, trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, chronic medical conditions and personal growth. I’m certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), CBT for Insomnia, CBT for Pain, and several relationship and suicide-prevention programs. I integrate these approaches into a personalized plan that fits each client’s needs, considering emotional, social, and cultural factors. As a native Spanish speaker and immigrant from Mexico, I understand the importance of cultural awareness in therapy. I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered. My goal is to help you heal from trauma, strengthen relationships, build self-worth, and achieve meaningful personal growth.

I believe that the journey towards happiness and fulfillment can be achieved by raising our awareness/consciousness. So how do we do this? First, understanding that our view of the world is the predominant factor in diagnoses such as depression and anxiety. Most of us do not know that we made decisions about who we are and what we subconsicously believe we deserve. This is often at the basis of what is limiting and blocking us from the life we dream of (or sometimes even blocks the ability to dream). I provide an integrative approach to help you "remember who you are". It is your Authentic Self that begins to call the shots in your life. You (and your parts, inner children and ego construct) are no longer running old programs that have led you to limit what you can achieve and who you are. This authentic self is the core of your unique talents, personality and wisdom. You and I will begin the process of understanding your unique dynamics that have set up the story of who you are. Throughout each session, we begin to unravel what the specific pattern is that developed your sense of self and any masks you created to fit in or survive. What I have found is It is often the inner conflict between the authentic self and our “fictional” self that creates the distress.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Arizona rather than a city like Phoenix?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Arizona. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Arizona from Tucson to Mesa! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Arizona.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
