(he/him)
I help clients explore patterns in their life, which ones they can change and how they can best adjust to the ones that are hard to change. I try to understand what life feels and looks like to them and why they made certain choices. My life experience helps me with this process. My background includes 20 years in corporate settings before becoming a psychotherapist in 1996, personal psychotherapy, and supervising psychotherapy interns. Having studied and worked in the US and Holland, I am sensitive to the experience of being an immigrant or living with one.
At the end of the first session, my client should be convinced that I understand what brings them in. And, just as important they should feel that we are a match.
My ability to listen and my long and broad life experience.
The majority of my clients are people over 40, who want to make sense of their life and its transitions: where they come from, where they are and where they are going. They might have specific issues: depression, anxiety, work, relationships, health challenges, aging parents, substance abuse and other addictive behaviors. Their history might include trauma in childhood or later in life, and multiple losses.
Eclectic
I am familiar with various treatment methods and will pick the one that best fits the needs of my client.
