Hi There! I’m Paul Remmele. I am a Licensed Mariage and Family Therapist who is highly motivated to help clients navigate through challenging current situations, heal from past trauma, discover their true voice, and overcome obstacles that allow them to attain their full potential. I believe in clients’ innate wisdom regarding their inner lives, so I work with people in a collaborative way to identify and achieve their therapeutic goals. Progress can best be achieved by a combination of 1) thoughtful discussion leading to cognitive insights, 2) the processing of emotions, and 3) efforts to change ineffective behaviors. All three approaches are important, but I have witnessed the deepest degree of healing and growth through the expression of emotions in a safe and supportive environment. I strive to provide an environment for clients that feels safe, supportive and non-judgmental. Too many of us have felt overly criticized, shamed, misunderstood, neglected and/or abused. These troubling experiences often lead to feelings of mistrust, isolation and loneliness. To begin to reverse this negative condition, I believe it’s essential that clients feel fully heard, supported and empathized with through all stages of therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session with a client, I strive to develop a rapport and a feeling of safety and trust as we get to know each other. I state my commitment to keep our sessions confidential. Since I am a client-directed therapist, I ask clients to describe the issues and goals they want to work on as well as their expectations of therapy. It’s important to me that the client feels we are working together in a collaborative way to achieve their goals. I ask if they have had psychotherapy before and if so, what might have been helpful. I also ask clients if they have any questions regarding my approach.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Decades ago my life was dramatically transformed through psychotherapy as I overcame psychological obstacles and was able to more fully attain my true potential. This process has made me a very empathetic person who is highly motivated to help others transform their lives in a similar way. I believe all people have the need to bond with other human beings starting from early childhood and continuing to the end of our lives. I am passionate about helping people strengthen these bonds and begin to see themselves as courageous survivors, and perhaps even heroes, in the story of their lives.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have significant experience working with a variety of people from many different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. I enjoy working with families and couples, often finding this approach very dynamic and productive. I love working with children of all ages, including mother and toddler dyads. I also have had many rewarding experiences working with those in the LBGTQ community.
