Katherine Saraceno
I am a forensic counselor with experience working in high intensity crisis driven enviorment. While I thrive in crisis work, I am passionate about helping individuals manage the challenges of modern life. I support clients dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, and relationship stress.
I've had the priviledge of working with a diverse range of clients- children, grieving adults, those dealing with the impact of suicide, incarcerated individuals, and people who are unhoused.
My goal is to help clients live functional, healthy lives by providing the tools and confidence they need to navigate life's ups and downs. I use tools like meditation, CBT, and homework assignments that clients can apply in their daily lives to build new skills. I also take a strength based approach, focusing on what each client is already good at and building from there to foster growth and resilience.
First session
In your first session with me, you can expect a compassionate non judgmental approach as we get know each other. I'll begin by asking what brough you into therapy today? This help sme understand your circumstances and the decision to seek therapy, whether it was your choice or someone else's. We also discuss your history with therapy- what has worked, and what has not. I will ask some health related questions to look at the whole person including any medications or illnesses that may be influencing your well being. Ill also ask about your relationships. Finally, I'll want to learn about what you enjoy doing so we can build meaningful goals together.
Strengths
My greatest strengths as a provider are my non judgmental approach, sense of humor, and life experience. I've had the priviledge of working with a diverse range of clients- children, grieving adults, those dealing with the impact of suicide, incarcerated individuals, and people who are unhoused. This wide varient of experiences has deeply enriched my practice. Additionally, my own journey through therapy and navigating various sytstems give me a unique understand of what clients go through. These combined experiences make me adaptable and flexible in my approach to helping clients.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults dealing with self esteem issues, learning disabilities, or history of trauma. I can related to those struggling with ADHD as well as I was diagnosed later in life and had to learn the tools to build resilience. I also have a history of trauma that I continue to work through, which helps me connect and empathize with clients who have faced or are facing similar challenges. Additionally, I understand the stress of family dynamics and everyday life stressors. My experience allow me to support clients in navigating these waves and building confidence to move forward.
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
I have experience working with children, teens, and adults who have experience trauma. In my practice, I help adults understand how their early childhood experiences may still affect their thoughts feelings, and actions today. By looking at these connections, I help clients identify patterns and work through them. My goal is to create a safe space where clients can explore their past and gain a better understanding of themselves and work toward healing.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well- known approach, I use it in a very practical and goal oriented way. In my practice, CBT is not just about discussing feelings endlessly. Instead, I focus on helping clients identify specific areas of their lives they want to improve. Together, we set clear actionable goals for treatment. I believe in giving clients the tools they can use right away in their everyday lives. I value structure and clarity and my approach ensures clients have the concrete steps they can apply to make progress.
Somatic
I help clients understand how chronic stress or trauma shows up in their bodies through physical sensations. This is important because not being aware of whats happening can increase anxiety and self judgement. I've worked with clients in school based settings as well as the correctional setting. My goal is to help guide clients to recognize their body's responses and explore healthier ways to manage emotions.
